Will the Blues get the job done?
While third-division Lincoln City has already survived two rounds in the EFL Cup, the reigning Conference League champions and FIFA Club World Cup winners are now entering the fray for the first time in England’s second-most important club competition. The Blues are waiting for a win in three competitive games (one draw, two defeats) and now want to boost their confidence. Nevertheless, when betting on Lincoln vs. Chelsea, it must be taken into account that the Londoners still have three tough matches ahead of them before the next international break – including against Benfica Lisbon and Liverpool. Coach Enzo Maresca is therefore likely to take the opportunity to rotate his squad a little at the Witham River.
The third-division side should not be underestimated, however, as they are unbeaten in ten competitive games (seven wins, three draws) and should be able to hold their own against a possible Blues B team. The Imps are also very solid defensively, which could make it a game of patience for the Londoners. In this context, the prediction that Lincoln will concede a maximum of one goal in the first half against Chelsea is very interesting.
If everything goes according to plan, the visitors from the Thames should still come out on top in Lincolnshire. However, we do not expect a goal fest, which is why we would refrain from placing overly high handicap bets.
If you still want to bet on an away win for the Pensioners in regular time, you can use the handy Betano app to place a match combo bet on tip 2 at odds of 1.57 with a total of under 4.5 goals.
Lincoln – Chelsea Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Head to head: 1 – 2 – 5
If you look at the record between the two teams, you have to dig deep into the history books to find the eight competitive matches that took place between 1905 and 1911. Chelsea FC leads the head-to-head record against Lincoln City with five wins, although the numbers are of course no longer meaningful. Nevertheless, it is an interesting side note that the only time the two teams met in a cup competition (FA Cup 1906/07), the Imps prevailed 3-2 over the Blues after two legs.
Lincoln – Chelsea Tip
In principle, the third-division team has momentum on its side in this “David versus Goliath” duel. Lincoln City are unbeaten in ten competitive games (seven wins, three draws) and have already overcome the first two hurdles in the EFL Cup, while Chelsea FC have failed to win three times in a row (one draw, two defeats) after a strong start to the season. In all three cases, the Blues conceded at least two goals. Nevertheless, we do not expect the Imps to play too offensively against the favored Premier League club. Rather, the defensively strong home side are likely to focus on compactness and tightening up the center.
If Enzo Maresca rotates several positions as expected, the Londoners could be in for a game of patience away at Sincil Bank Stadium. In this context, it is very interesting to bet on a maximum of one goal being scored in the first half.
For under 1.5 goals before the half-time whistle, Lincoln vs. Chelsea betting odds of 1.75 are available, which we are betting on at Interwetten with three out of ten units.
