Will the Reds find their form in the Champions League?

Liverpool FC had hoped that their two victories against Aston Villa (2-0) and Real Madrid (1-0) in early November would bring a relatively quick end to their weakest phase of the season. Three weeks later, however, the Reds have actually hit a new low. An embarrassing 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham saw LFC drop to eleventh place in the Premier League standings and, with Arsenal now eleven points ahead, they will probably have to give up on their mission to defend their title.

At least coach Arne Slot’s protégés can escape the dreary everyday life at the national level during the week. In the Champions League, the Reds want to underpin their ambitions for a top-8 finish. To do so, a successful tip on a home win in the Liverpool vs. PSV Eindhoven match is virtually the only option.

However, Wednesday evening’s task will not be a walk in the park, of course. Coach Arne Slot, who has recently come under increasing criticism and does not have a particularly good record against the upcoming opponent, is well aware of this. The long-time Eredivisie coach has won only one of his last eight matches against PSV in all competitions (1-3-4). Slot has suffered more defeats against the “Boeren” than against any other opponent in his career on the sidelines.

However, with regard to the Liverpool vs. PSV Eindhoven prediction on the outcome of the match, it is far more important to know that Slot also lost 2-3 to the reigning Dutch champions with LFC in January of this year – also in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League at the time.

Unimpressed by this, betting providers with German licenses are offering very low odds on a home win for the match between Liverpool and PSV Eindhoven without exception. At Interwetten, the maximum odds for a three-point win for the favorites are 1.33.

Liverpool vs. PSV Eindhoven AI prediction

The one-sided xG values of 2.94 to 0.91 in favor of the Reds cannot be interpreted any other way. AI also sees an almost 80 percent chance of victory for LFC, so the basic Liverpool vs. PSV Eindhoven AI prediction definitely points to a home win. To get value, you should – according to AI – bet on the Asian handicap (-2) at 2.30 in the Interwetten app.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

This season’s Liverpool in the Premier League can only be compared to LFC in the Champions League to a limited extent. While, as mentioned, things are not going well at all in the league, with the star ensemble from Merseyside losing six of their last seven matches, their performance in the Champions League is impressive.

Is Liverpool gaining confidence in the Champions League?

They have nine points after four matchdays. Only Galatasaray managed to beat them, with a narrow 1-0 victory. In return, Real Madrid were put in their place three weeks ago, also with a 1-0 defeat. They also celebrated a 3-2 victory against Atlético Madrid in their opening league match. In my opinion, the Liverpool vs. PSV Eindhoven prediction must therefore take into account that the Reds will show a different face when the Champions League anthem sounds during the week than they did at the weekend.

This is also supported by the statistic that the reigning English champions have won all of their last 13 (!) Champions League home games in the league or group stage. Of the last 25 games of this type, only one has been lost (21-3-1). However, it is also clear that an offensive festival from the sometimes unsettled LFC stars cannot necessarily be expected.

It is therefore conceivable to combine a home win with under 4.5 goals in the game. Less risk-averse bettors can even find odds of up to 1.55 for the safe 1X & under 4.5 at Interwetten for the Liverpool vs. PSV Eindhoven game, which are particularly good on combination betting slips.

PSV Eindhoven – Statistics & current form

PSV Eindhoven laid the foundation for qualifying for the Champions League playoffs in the first four matchdays. The Dutch champions have already picked up five points. They have one win, two draws and just one defeat to their name.

They celebrated a sensational 6-2 win against Napoli. Surprisingly, they suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Royale Union SG. Away from home, the “Boeren” fought to 1-1 draws at Olympiacos Piraeus and Bayer Leverkusen. On Wednesday evening, however, the bar will probably be set much higher at Anfield Road, so I am completely disregarding the odds of a surprise coup in the match between Liverpool and PSV Eindhoven.

Will PSV lose a soccer game for the first time since mid-September?

Anyone who is still reluctant to bet against Philips’ Sport Vereiniging, which has now gone eleven (!) consecutive competitive games without defeat, should seriously consider looking at the number of goals. Although both teams have scored in the last ten Champions League matches involving the “Lamps” and the ball has crossed the goal line an average of 4.5 times, I’m leaning more toward under goals.

This is also because I don’t necessarily believe that coach Peter Bosz’s team will score. In Piraeus and also in Leverkusen, the Dutch team only managed a total of three shots on goal in 90 minutes, two clear chances and xG values of less than 0.5 in each case. Given that even Real Madrid failed to score at Anfield and the LFC pros will certainly be particularly focused after conceding three goals against Nottingham at the weekend, I would also suggest betting on a 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0 win for Liverpool against PSV Eindhoven. Winamax is offering odds of 3.80.

Liverpool – PSV Eindhoven Head-to-head record

The two clubs have faced each other seven times in competitive matches so far. Liverpool won five of the first six encounters (one draw). In January 2025, however, the Reds suffered a 2-3 defeat against PSV Eindhoven. However, this defeat must be put into perspective, as it was suffered at the Philips Stadium and under special circumstances. Before the last matchday, LFC had already qualified for the round of 16 and therefore did not field their best team. That will definitely be different on Wednesday evening!

Liverpool – PSV Eindhoven Tip

LFC fans are certainly not to be envied at the moment. Despite heavy investment in the summer, the Reds are lagging well behind their own expectations in the Premier League. They have lost six of their last seven league matches. Coach Arne Slot has come under criticism and desperately needs a win on Wednesday evening, as well as a good performance, to take some of the pressure off himself. A win is definitely within the realm of possibility, because despite their disappointing performances, Liverpool are clear favorites against PSV Eindhoven.

I basically agree with this assessment, but at the same time I would point out that PSV have not lost any of their last eleven competitive games and can be a difficult opponent. I am therefore going with the least risky of my three betting options. For the Liverpool vs. PSV Eindhoven tip for 1X & Under 4.5, I’m betting seven units at top odds of 1.55. Alternatively, the same under approach can also be combined with a home win. At Betano, you also get 1.87 for the double result HT1/FT1, which requires a half-time lead followed by a win for the Reds.
