Will the Reds manage to end the year on a high note?

In Liverpool FC’s last game of the year, the roles are clearly defined. Last year’s champions are under pressure to take three points against the bottom-of-the-table team and thus remain in the top four. After a long period of weakness, Arne Slot’s team has recently stabilized and is now unbeaten in five league games – only Aston Villa can boast a longer streak.

For the Wolves, on the other hand, the signs point to relegation even before the end of the first half of the season. With only two points from 17 games, they are on course to beat Derby County’s all-time negative record of eleven points. A look at their head-to-head record against the Reds offers little hope either, with 16 of their last 17 games against LFC ending in defeat. Everything therefore points to betting on the hosts in Liverpool vs. Wolverhampton. However, as the odds alone are hardly worth it, a handicap bet should be considered in order to increase the potential winnings.

It is well known that there is considerable discord among the home team, who are only slowly approaching the top four again. Club legend Mo Salah, who is not currently playing a major role in the team and is pushing himself into the spotlight with provocative interviews, is particularly divisive. While some criticize his performance this season and his big ego, others are outraged that such a deserving player has to sit on the bench. With all this unrest, it’s almost convenient for the Reds that Salah has now traveled to Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations, allowing the dust to settle.

Fortunately, even without Salah, Arne Slot has more than enough quality in his squad to field a powerful offense against the Wolves. In the absence of the Egyptian and record transfer Isak, who has suffered a broken leg, a lot of responsibility will fall on the shoulders of a former Frankfurt player. Hugo Ekitike is the Reds’ top scorer with eight goals this season. He has scored five goals in the last three Premier League games alone. In Liverpool vs. Wolverhampton, the prediction is therefore that the young Frenchman will score again.

In a match between one of the best offenses and the worst defense in the league, it might also be worth betting on a high-scoring game.

Liverpool – Wolverhampton Head-to-head record / H2H record

In a direct comparison, the Reds clearly have the upper hand. The reigning champions have won 16 of the last 17 games, with the underdogs’ last victory coming over two years ago. Another interesting fact is that there has not been a single 0-0 draw in the last 22 meetings.

Liverpool – Wolverhampton Tip

At the end of the year, LFC faces what is arguably the easiest task of the entire season. Against the still winless Wolves, anything less than a clear victory would be a big surprise. With Salah absent and Isak injured, it is quite possible that Hugo Ekitike will once again take center stage with a goal.

Furthermore, it is likely that Arne Slot’s team will manage to score a few goals against the worst defense. A bet on “over 3.5” can be placed at attractive odds for Liverpool against Wolverhampton.
