Will the Ulvene fulfill their duty?
While Sönderjyske, who were in serious danger of relegation last season, started the 2024/25 season with a 1-1 draw against Aarhus, runners-up Midtjylland could only manage a 3-3 draw against Odense. The Jutlanders then missed out on victory against Hibernian (1-1) in the Europa League qualifiers on Thursday evening, thus faltering in their first two competitive games of the still young season. It would therefore be risky to bet on a home win for the favored Ulvene in the match between Midtjylland and Sönderjyske.
The Red and Blacks clearly have the upper hand in the head-to-head comparison. However, Sönderjyske won the last duel 3-2. It was striking that a total of 18 goals were scored in the last four meetings between the two teams. Both teams scored twice in each game and there were always at least four goals, which makes a high-scoring match very likely when Midtjylland plays Sönderjyske.
In any case, it should be noted that the three-way system carries too many risks in the early stages of the 2025/26 season. Due to the Jutlanders’ clear favouritism, the odds for Midtjylland against Sönderjyske are currently just 1.47 for a home win for the Ulvene (found in the Betano app). Considering that the reigning runners-up have not managed to get beyond a draw in either of their two competitive games so far this season, despite being clear favorites, a bet on a win is therefore clearly not recommended.
Midtjylland – Statistics & current form
FC Midtjylland secured the Danish national championship for the fourth time in the club’s history in the summer of 2024. For a long time during the past season, it looked as if the Ulvene (German for “wolves”) would successfully defend their title. In the regular season, the Jutlanders finished four points ahead of FC Copenhagen in first place, but in the championship round they only managed to pick up four points from a possible 15 in their first five games.
Although they did not lose either the home or away game against FC Copenhagen (4-2 H, 1-1 away), Thomas Thomasberg’s team was caught by FCK due to the aforementioned slump and ended up finishing as runners-up, just one point behind. The Red and Blacks have set themselves correspondingly high goals for the 2025/26 season, which, however, started with two disappointments.
FC Midtjylland faces a false start
First, FC Midtjylland could not get past a 3-3 draw against Odense BK, although the runners-up did manage to fight back twice after falling behind 0-2 and 2-3 and only avoided a home defeat in the opening game thanks to a last-minute goal from striker Franculino, who is currently being linked with Bayer Leverkusen. And then the Jutlanders failed to win at home in the Europa League qualifiers. After a 1-1 draw against Hibernian, the Ulvene now travel to Scotland next Thursday in a critical position and could even be relegated to the Conference League qualifiers if they get off to a bad start.
Accordingly, they will now be looking to break the deadlock against their visitors from Haderslev. Basically, the tip for Midtjylland against Sönderjyske is for a home win for the red and blacks, although their defensive problems need to be addressed first and foremost. Not only have they conceded four goals in their first two competitive games of the 2025/26 season, but FC Midtjylland have also conceded at least two goals in each of their last four encounters with Sönderjyske.

Sönderjyske – Statistics & current form
Sønderjyske Futbold was formed in 2004 from a merger of five Danish clubs and is based in Haderslev in the Syddanmark region. The port city club won the Danish Cup in 2020, but has spent the last two seasons in the country’s second division. As a promoted team, everything looked set for immediate relegation last season. In the regular season, the Blue and Whites initially picked up only 17 of a possible 66 points, finishing as the second-weakest team in the relegation round.
However, Thomas Nörgaard’s team then sold themselves dearly. Thanks to a sensational haul of 20 out of a possible 30 points, the promoted team ultimately secured their place in the top flight in style and can therefore look forward to another year in the Superliga. They got off to a respectable start with a 1-1 draw against Aarhus GF, which they will now look to build on.
Sönderjyske with poor record against Midtjylland
One positive is certainly the fact that the team has been strengthened in key areas. With center backs Magnus Jensen and Alexander Lyng, a high level of quality has been added to key positions. However, the defense remains a problem area. In the 32 games of the 2024/25 season, they conceded a total of 64 goals, an average of two per league game. Only relegated Aalborg were more prone to conceding goals (67).
Against this backdrop, a clean sheet is not to be expected in the away game at the MCH Arena, which is why the Blue and Whites are traveling to the runners-up with the corresponding underdog status. In the practical Merkur Bets app, Midtjylland are priced at 6.63 for an away win against Sönderjyske, who have lost twelve of their last 14 away games at the Ulvene (one win, one draw)…

Midtjylland – Sönderjyske Head-to-head / H2H record
Head to head: 24 – 9 – 12
A total of 45 matches have been played between the two teams so far, with FC Midtjylland leading the head-to-head record very clearly with 24 wins. The Ulvene have also won three of their last four games against Sönderjyske, but were defeated 2–3 in their last league game against the kickers from Haderslev. Noteworthy: At least four goals were scored in each of their last four encounters.
Midtjylland – Sönderjyske Tip
In our opinion, the betting odds from the top bookmakers are leaning too heavily toward Midtjylland against Sönderjyske. We wouldn’t want to question the vice-champions’ status as favorites. However, it has to be said that the red and blacks have failed to win either their Superliga opener (3-3 against Odense) or their Europa League qualifier (1-1 against Hibernian). The risk that they will not succeed against the visitors from Haderslev is therefore too high to justify the low odds below the 1.50 mark.
However, the fact that there is no value to be found in the three-way system is not a tragedy. As our analysis has shown, there are many indications that there will be plenty of goals at the MCH Arena. There have been 18 goals in the last four meetings between the two teams, with both sides curiously scoring at least two goals in all four games.
Accordingly, the prediction that there will be goals at both ends is a good bet for Midtjylland against Sönderjyske. Merkur Bets is offering odds of 1.55 for both teams to score, which we are backing with five out of ten units.
