The fourth meeting in three months

As in the EFL Cup, Newcastle United and Manchester City are now facing each other in the FA Cup. In the League Cup semi-final, the Skyblues won 5-1 on aggregate (2-0, 3-1) and are now in the final. This time, the prize is a place in the quarter-finals, with no second leg this time around. The last direct duel between the two teams in the FA Cup was in Manchester in 2024, which the Citizens won 2-0.

In the eight cup matches between the two teams so far, seven have ended with less than three goals. In our Newcastle vs. Manchester City tip, we are therefore betting on under 2.5 goals again.

Newcastle are currently in mediocre form and have lost all three matches against Manchester City so far this year. The last FA Cup match at St. James’ Park was in 2020, which the hosts also lost 0-2 – their last and only victory came in 2002 with a 1-0 win. There is one notable difference between the league and cup matches: while both teams scored in seven of the last eight league matches in Newcastle, there has never been a goal from both sides in five cup matches.

In a total of eight FA and League Cup matches, there have been seven instances of no goals scored by either side – the most recent 1-3 defeat at the Etihad in early February being the only exception. In our Newcastle vs. Manchester City prediction, we are therefore betting on no goals scored by either side again.

Even though City are in very good form, they are much more vulnerable away from home than they are in front of their home crowd. In 21 games, they have failed to win nine times – and on nine occasions, only one side scored. However, they won their only game in Newcastle this year 2-0 – and in all five cup games at the host’s ground, they also lead the head-to-head record with three wins to two defeats.

What was striking about the three matches between the two teams this year was the scoring sequence – in two of the three matches, more goals were scored in the first half, with a total of six of the nine goals.

Newcastle – Manchester City Head-to-head record / H2H record

Newcastle United and Manchester City have played each other 166 times in competitive matches. Manchester City leads the head-to-head record with 72 wins, while Newcastle United has 57 wins; 37 matches ended in a draw.

The goal difference also favors Manchester City, with 261 goals scored to 212 conceded. The majority of the matches took place in the Premier League (158 games), with three games in the FA Cup and five in the League Cup.

Newcastle – Manchester City Tip

For the Newcastle vs. Manchester City match, the betting odds from bookmaker Interwetten favor the visitors from Manchester. The Citizens have won all three matches against Newcastle this year and are unbeaten in their last three away games. In addition, there have only been three goals scored by both sides in the Skyblues’ last seven away games.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are in poor form at home, losing four of their last six home games. However, they have only failed to score twice in 24 home games this season – in 2-0 defeats to Man City and Aston Villa.
