Will Real Oviedo manage a comeback?
Real Oviedo is fighting for promotion to the Spanish top flight. Veljko Paunovic’s team lost the first leg of the promotion playoff final against CD Mirandés last week and is now on thin ice. In the second leg at home, the “Carbayones” are under pressure to win. Our Real Oviedo vs. Mirandes tip is for the favored hosts.
Real Oviedo has not lost any of its last seven league games at home. In these seven matches, the third-placed team in La Liga 2 has a record of 5-2-0. It is quite possible that their home strength will be reinforced in the final of the promotion playoffs. Especially since their upcoming opponent from Miranda de Ebro is not one of the strongest away teams in the league.
Before their recent run of success on the road – Mirandes are unbeaten in their last four away games – the Rojillos went eight away games without a win. It therefore remains to be seen how CD Mirandés will perform in the upcoming match against Real Oviedo.
Oviedo – Statistics & current form
Real Oviedo caused a major upset in the semi-finals, eliminating Almeria, a high-profile opponent, from the playoffs. After the first and second legs, the “Carbayones” had a 3-2 aggregate score and thus secured their place in the promotion playoffs of La Liga 2. The first leg has already been played. Real Oviedo suffered a bitter defeat on foreign soil.
Although Veljko Paunovic’s team was the better side, they failed to equalize after falling behind early on. By comparison, CD Mirandés played with an xG rating of just 0.28 and had less possession than Real Oviedo despite having home advantage. The visitors, on the other hand, had an xG rating of 1.17.
The missed penalty in the closing minutes was particularly bitter, as it meant a wasted chance to equalize. Real Oviedo now has to win the second leg to force extra time against CD Mirandés. Only a victory by at least two goals will see Oviedo promoted in regular time.
Will they be able to build on their home strength against CD Mirandés?
If Real Oviedo can build on their strong performance in the first leg, Veljko Paunovic’s team should not have too much trouble in the second leg against CD Mirandés. Home advantage is in favor of the third-placed team in the main round. In the regular season, Oviedo had a record of 14-3-4 in 21 home games, scoring 34 goals – an average of 1.62 goals per match.
Real Oviedo won five of their last seven home games and also drew twice. The “Carbayones” have also kept a clean sheet three times in these seven games. A clean sheet is also very important this time, especially as a single goal would mean that Real Oviedo would have to score at least two goals to go into extra time.
Veljko Paunovic will be without one player in his squad for the final second leg due to injury. The home side has no other personnel concerns at present. Alemao currently tops Real Oviedo’s internal scoring charts. The 27-year-old Brazilian has already scored 14 goals in the current second division season and is therefore a likely candidate to score against CD Mirandés.
Mirandes – Statistics & current form
CD Mirandés got away with a lucky win last week. An early offensive strike was enough to win the home game against Real Oviedo and set the course for promotion. Alessio Lisci’s team was outplayed by their opponents despite home advantage and struggled to create any chances, especially in attack.
Mirandés only made a positive impression in defense, largely keeping the Carbayones at bay. In the closing stages, the opponents also missed a penalty, much to the delight of the fourth-placed team in the regular season. CD Mirandés is no longer under pressure to win in the second leg and will therefore not take any major risks.
The Rojillos have not lost any of their last four away games and are therefore confident going into the upcoming match against Real Oviedo. Mirandés even has a record of 3-1-0 in its last four away games.
Will Mirandes fail again at Real Oviedo?
However, Mirandes has not won a single away game at Real Oviedo since September 2010. In fact, they have lost three of their last four away games against their upcoming opponents. It is therefore risky to predict a win for the Rojillos in Oviedo vs. Mirandés. The last time Mirandes visited Oviedo, they conceded four goals against CD Mirandés.
It also remains to be seen whether Alessio Lisci’s team can build on their recent away performances against the Carbayones. In the regular season, Mirandés only managed a record of 7-4-10 away from home. In those 21 away games, Lisci’s team conceded 25 goals.
As in the first leg, Alessio Lisci has no major personnel worries for the return match against Real Oviedo. The Italian can once again pick from a full squad. Compared to the team that played last week, no major changes are expected in the starting line-up.
Oviedo – Mirandes Head-to-head record / H2H record
The two clubs have already met twice in the regular season. Real Oviedo won the home game against CD Mirandés 4-1. The fourth-placed team from Miranda de Ebro won the return fixture 1-0, evening the head-to-head record for this season. With last week’s victory, Mirandes leads the head-to-head record this season 2-0-1.
Real Oviedo has won three of its last four home games against Mirandés. In these four encounters, Oviedo has a record of 3-1-0 and has scored a total of nine goals. In return, there were only two goals conceded against the “Rojillos.”
Oviedo – Mirandes Tip
Real Oviedo lost a competitive game last week for the first time since March 2025. In their last 13 league games, the “Carbayones” have a record of 8-4-1. Veljko Paunovic’s team has been particularly impressive in their home games, winning five of their last six. They will be looking to continue that run against CD Mirandés.
After losing the first leg, the third-placed team in the main round is under pressure to win. Oviedo has already beaten Mirandes at home in the regular season. The first leg of the 2024/25 La Liga 2 season ended in a 4-1 win for Real Oviedo. It was their third win in the last four head-to-head matches in Oviedo.
We are expecting another victory for the home side this time around and are placing our Oviedo vs. Mirandes tip at reasonable betting odds on the hosts.
