Are the Andalusians sliding into a false start?
Sevilla FC finished the 2024/25 season just one measly point above the relegation zone. The Rojiblancos – record winners of the Europa League with seven titles, five of which came between 2014 and 2023 – are still a shadow of their former selves and also started 2025/26 with a defeat (2-3 at Athletic Bilbao). If Sevilla fail to beat Getafe, the Nervionenses’ prediction will not come true and the traditional club, under new coach Matías Almeyda, will promptly slide into another false start.
Getafe CF, which, curiously, will not play its first home game until the fourth matchday, has gotten off to a strong start with a 2-0 win at Celta Vigo. The players from the Madrid suburbs had a taste of European competition last season, but threw it away in spectacular fashion at the end of the season, losing seven of their last eight games.
