Will Sweden remain winless throughout the entire qualifying round?

Sweden had probably expected much more from the strike duo of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres before the World Cup qualifiers. Because what happened in the Swedish team’s five qualifying games was an absolute disaster. The defeat against Switzerland (where Gyökeres was missing due to injury) and Kosovo’s victory against Slovenia at the same time dashed Sweden’s last slim chance and sealed their fate in the qualifiers. In five games, Potter’s team managed to secure just one point – in the first leg against Slovenia. As a result, the Scandinavians are rightly at the bottom of the table – behind Slovenia in third place – with three points.

Sweden suffered their fourth defeat in five qualifying games in their last group match – losing 4-1 to Switzerland, they once again put in a poor performance. The goal was only the third ever scored by the blue and yellows in this competition, after they failed to score in their last three games. With only one point, they are bottom of the table and earned their only point in a 2-2 draw against Slovenia in the first leg. In our Sweden vs. Slovenia prediction, we predict that Graham Potter’s team will remain completely winless in qualifying.

Not only are the Scandinavians struggling offensively, but they are also showing major weaknesses defensively. Sweden are the only team in the group to have conceded at least one goal in every single qualifying game. We therefore predict in our Sweden vs. Slovenia prediction that they will concede another goal here.

The Slovenians, on the other hand, have been even worse than the Swedes in attack, scoring their only two goals in the first leg against the Swedish team and then failing to score in the next four games. In contrast to the hosts, however, they have managed to keep a clean sheet twice and have thus secured three draws in their five games. According to the Sweden vs. Slovenia betting odds, Slovenia is the clear underdog going into this match, even though they have shown better performance and defensive stability in this qualifying campaign.

However, they have remained winless in their five previous matches against Sweden – the most goal-rich duel between the two teams was the World Cup qualifying first leg. In the four previous direct duels, as well as in the last three qualifying games of Kek’s team, there were never more than two goals scored.

Sweden – Slovenia Head-to-head record / H2H record

In the previous head-to-head comparison between Sweden and Slovenia, the two nations have faced each other five times, including two matches in the UEFA Nations League, one World Cup qualifier, and two test matches. Sweden won two of these matches, three ended in a draw, and Slovenia remained without a win. The goal difference also favors the Swedish national team at six to three, while Slovenia scored three goals and conceded six.

Sweden – Slovenia Tip

Both teams are at the bottom of the table and have no chance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The second thing both teams have in common is that neither has won a game yet. Sweden has earned just one point in five games, while Slovenia has earned three. That’s why we’re leaning toward Slovenia in our prediction.

The Swedish team has conceded goals in every game and scored only three times, while Slovenia has scored only twice but kept two clean sheets. In the five direct encounters between the two teams, Slovenia has yet to win against Sweden, with four of those games seeing fewer than three goals scored.
