Are the Spurs expecting the worst?

Only two places separate the two teams in our Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace tip in the English top flight table. At the same time, the Lilywhites are six points behind the Eagles – and it could soon be more.

The Spurs are in disastrous form. Nerves are frayed and soon they will be teetering between the knockout stages of the Champions League and the relegation battle in the Premier League. We don’t see any improvements in our Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace prediction yet.

Igor Tudor has been called in to replace Thomas Frank and improve results as quickly as possible. He started with a 1-4 defeat in the derby against Arsenal, followed by a 1-2 defeat away to Fulham. The Lilywhites’ management had imagined things would turn out differently.

The legacy of the short Frank era remains, and the home side have now gone ten Premier League games without a win. The reigning Europa League winners last picked up three points in the PL in December – almost three months ago. We no longer see any major advantages when comparing the Tottenham – Crystal Palace betting odds.

The home side have broken through their opponents’ defensive lines too rarely this season – 29.0 expected goals (17th) are far from their own expectations. It won’t be any easier in Thursday’s home game against Oliver Glasner’s side.

The Eagles bring a top-6 defense into this encounter, as well as one of the six best expected defenses (37.2 xGA). However, they rarely show any interest in scoring goals themselves (30 goals this season – 17th in the league). At Betano, we recommend the Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace odds of 2.02 for “Under 2.5 goals.”

Tottenham – Crystal Palace Head-to-head comparison / H2H record

The Spurs won the first leg of the season. Last season, however, the Lilywhites lost their last Premier League home game against Crystal Palace (0-2), as well as the previous away game against the Eagles (0-1). Tottenham has forgotten how to win games at the moment – even at home.

The hosts have collected ten points so far at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (2W, 4D, 8L). Only Wolverhampton (9) have collected fewer points at home in this PL season. In addition, the reigning EL winners have only found the back of the net 17 times.

Tottenham – Crystal Palace Tip

A classic Eagles game consists of few goals (average of 2.29 per Premier League game – 19th in the league), intense battles and missed opportunities. When playing away, Glasner’s team often has the right recipe to avoid defeat.

Only seven PL teams have collected more away points this season than Crystal Palace (20), whose goal difference on the road (16:16) exactly reflects expectations for the match against Tottenham. The visitors often lack composure in front of the opponent’s goal.

9.1 percent of their shots found their way into the net (18th), while 32.9 percent of their big chances were converted into goals (17th). Tottenham created significantly fewer big chances (48 – 15th in the Premier League), but at least converted them at a higher rate (39.7 percent).

A quick look at the two coaching benches is interesting because Glasner has won both of his competitive matches against Igor Tudor. In the 2022/23 Champions League group stage, the Austrian won with Eintracht Frankfurt against Olympique Marseille.
