Will the Spurs gain fresh confidence in Europe?

After a fundamentally strong start to the season, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has recently fallen back into trouble. The Londoners have lost three of their last five competitive games (one win, one draw), but at least in the Champions League group stage they remained unbeaten in all three games (one win, two draws). As a result, the trend now favors a home win for Spurs against FC Copenhagen, especially as the visitors from Denmark are still without a win (one draw, two defeats).

The Lions have conceded at least two goals in each of their last five games in the Champions League across two seasons (14 goals conceded in total). In their dress rehearsal against FC Fredericia in the Superliga on Saturday, they conceded two goals again in a 3-2 home win. The Danes’ top priority is therefore likely to be to play much more compactly on the Thames. This also affects our Tottenham vs. FC Copenhagen prediction, in which we expect a match with not too many goals.

The Lilywhites are unbeaten in nine European competitive games (six wins, three draws), but have struggled to score goals recently. Not only did Spurs draw twice in a row, but they also failed to score in two of their last four games in the Champions League. Their only home game in London so far also resulted in a minimalist 1-0 home win over Villarreal. As a result, we find the greatest value in betting that a maximum of one team will score.

Tottenham vs. FC Copenhagen Prediction AI

Although the odds are comparatively low, AI finds the greatest value in betting on a home win for Spurs in the AI prediction for Tottenham vs. FC Copenhagen. Tottenham – Statistics & current form

Tottenham Hotspur are facing FC Copenhagen for the first time in a competitive match and, after two consecutive draws, are looking to take all three points in the Champions League group stage when they face a Danish team for only the second time in European competition (after a 3-2 win over Aalborg in November 2007). Basically, the tip for Tottenham against FC Copenhagen is for a home win for the reigning Europa League winners, which also looks promising.

Formally, the Londoners are on a stable run. They are currently on a nine-game unbeaten streak in European competition (six wins, three draws). At the same time, their last two Champions League games ended in draws. Tottenham last had three European draws in a row in 2014 in the Europa League.

Will Tottenham follow up on their home win against Villarreal?

For coach Thomas Frank, this is a very special match. The Dane is facing a club from the Danish Superliga for the first time since March 2016 (when he lost 3-1 to SönderjyskE), and his record against Copenhagen from his time at Bröndby is balanced to negative (two wins, three draws, three defeats).

Although his Spurs have struggled to score goals recently, their individual class could still see them succeed against an FCK side that has been vulnerable defensively of late. In their last Champions League game, for example, Mohammed Kudus came off the bench to complete five successful dribbles in just 30 minutes – as many as the rest of the Spurs combined. Pedro Porro is shaping the ball progression: 28 line-breaking passes in three Champions League games are the best in the club. He also shares the top spot with Kudus in terms of chances created (four each). Both players could now come back into focus.

FC Copenhagen – Statistics & current form

The starting position is challenging: in European Cup matches against English clubs, they have only recorded two wins from 19 games (five draws, twelve defeats). Both victories were against Manchester United (1-0 in November 2006, 4-3 in November 2023). FC Copenhagen are still waiting for their first away win in England (two draws, seven defeats), having lost their last five away games – four of them since the start of the 2022/23 season.

In addition, the number of goals conceded is a concern: in their last five Champions League games, Copenhagen have conceded at least two goals in each game (14 in total). With goals conceded at this rate, the Lions have won only one of 19 games in the Champions League. Accordingly, the odds for tip 2 are high for Tottenham against FC Copenhagen, which are quoted at 9.00 in the Bet-at-home app.

FC Copenhagen with their heads in the Thames?

Two of Copenhagen’s three Champions League goals this season have been headers. Copenhagen converted 33 percent of its headers (two out of six), while only one of 29 non-header shots resulted in a goal (3.4 percent). Viktor Dadason deserves special attention: the striker scored on matchday three at the age of 17 years and 113 days on his Champions League debut, making him the youngest debutant goalscorer in the competition’s history.

Against the Londoners, the Lions will face a right flank with high progression from Pedro Porro (28 line-breaking passes). For FCK, this means maximizing their own crossing quality and set pieces, clearly exploiting transition moments, and, of course, stabilizing the first line defensively to stem the flood of goals conceded.

Tottenham – FC Copenhagen Tip

The betting odds from the top bookmakers clearly and unambiguously favor Tottenham against FC Copenhagen, with their home win also being rated as a value tip by AI lady BETSiE. From a human perspective, however, we would rather steer clear of the three-way system. The chances of winning are too low, especially since the Lilywhites have lost three of their last five competitive games (one win, one draw) and have sometimes struggled to score goals internationally. Two of Spurs’ last four Champions League games ended 0-0. Their only home game in this year’s league phase was a narrow 1-0 win against Villarreal.

Although the Danish Lions are very vulnerable defensively, we do not expect a high-scoring match on the Thames, which is why our tip is that a maximum of one team will score in this duel. That includes a clean sheet victory for Spurs as well as another goalless draw.
