Will VfB Stuttgart succeed in their late revenge?

In seventh place in La Liga, Celta Vigo has qualified for the main round of a European competition for the first time since 2016/17. Back then, the Galicians had a really strong run in the Europa League and were only stopped in the semifinals by Manchester United – their best performance in Europe to date. In 2000/01, the Celestes even knocked VfB Stuttgart out of the UEFA Cup, and now, almost 25 years later, Stuttgart could get their revenge. According to the best bookmakers, the odds are good for a home win for VfB Stuttgart against Celta Vigo.

While the reigning German cup winners have picked up six out of a possible twelve points in the Bundesliga, the Célticos are still winless after six games in La Liga. However, it should be noted that the Celestes have only lost one game. An impressive five matches ended in a draw – curiously, always 1-1. In fact, none of the Galicians’ six La Liga games saw more than two goals scored. Since we would definitely expect the Swabians to play for a win in a 1-1 game, we would not want to categorically rule out that third goal, which is why our main tip in our VfB Stuttgart vs. Celta Vigo prediction is for under 3.5 goals in this opening game of the Europa League group stage.

Finally, it should also be noted that the White and Reds traditionally struggle against La Liga representatives. The Swabians have won only two of their last 15 international competitive games against Spanish clubs (four draws, nine defeats), and last season they were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage.

Given the form of the Celestes, who are still without a win in 2025/26, we don’t think a home defeat is too likely, which is why it would be conceivable to use the practical Betano app to place a Match Combo bet on the double chance 1X with under 4.5 goals.

VfB Stuttgart – Celta Vigo Head-to-head record

Head to head: 0 – 1 – 1

So far, the two clubs have only crossed paths in the round of 16 of the 2000/01 UEFA Cup. Back then, the first leg in Stuttgart ended in a goalless draw, before Celta Vigo recorded a 2-1 home win in Galicia in the second leg to secure their place in the quarterfinals. Almost a quarter of a century later, the Swabians now have the chance to take revenge on the Celestes.

VfB Stuttgart – Celta Vigo Tip

For the first time since the 2012/13 season, Stuttgart are back in the Europa League main round, where they are currently waiting for a win in five home games (three draws, two defeats). The bookmakers’ odds for VfB Stuttgart against Celta Vigo clearly favor the White and Reds.

However, the game will certainly not be a walk in the park for Sebastian Hoeneß’s team, especially as their record against Spanish teams is not particularly impressive. VfB have won only two of their last 15 European competitive games against La Liga teams (four draws, nine defeats).

It is striking that in the Célticos’ six La Liga games in the 2025/26 season, there have always been fewer than 2.5 goals. The Swabians have not been involved in too many goal fests either. In the Super Cup and the Bundesliga, there have been more than three goals in only one of five games, which we consider to be a very reasonable benchmark. We therefore recommend betting on under 3.5 goals, for which the betting odds for VfB Stuttgart vs. Celta Vigo are 1.53, which we are betting on at ODDSET with five out of ten units.
