Will TSG remain on course for the Champions League?

TSG Hoffenheim is the team of the moment in the Bundesliga. The Kraichgauers picked up nine points from their first three games after the winter break. Coach Christian Ilzer’s team has moved up to third place in the table and could consolidate this position with a win on Tuesday evening in the rescheduled match of the 16th matchday at SV Werder Bremen.

Around three weeks after the originally scheduled date for this match, there are now even more reasons to bet on Werder Bremen vs. Hoffenheim in favor of the visitors.

While the Sinsheimers, as mentioned, have made a perfect start to the new year, their opponents from northern Germany are struggling in every area. Werder have picked up just one point from three matches and have been waiting for a win in Germany’s top flight since the beginning of November. As things stand, the men from the Weser even have to seriously fear for their place in the league if there is no improvement in the near future. Consequently, there is not much to suggest a prediction in favor of the hosts ahead of Tuesday’s clash between Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim.

Werder Bremen – Statistics & current form

SV Werder Bremen has only 18 points and is in 15th place after 18 match days. With Alexander Nouri, who now works as a manager at a McDonald’s restaurant, there has only been one Werder coach who had an even weaker record after this number of games. There is still no public discussion about Horst Steffen, but if there is no positive change in the foreseeable future, the days of the long-time Elversberg coach could be numbered sooner than many currently think.

Werder’s sources of encouragement are currently limited

Above all, the far too harmless offense is currently causing headaches for the coaching team. In four of the last five Bundesliga matches, the Green-Whites failed to score. With Hamburger SV, St. Pauli, and Heidenheim, there are only three Bundesliga teams that have scored even less frequently than the men from the Weser so far this season. Combined with the fact that the opponents from Kraichgau have been difficult to beat defensively recently and Werder have been waiting for three points for eight Bundesliga games now, it is clear why my Werder Bremen vs. Hoffenheim prediction is leaning relatively clearly towards the third-placed team.

This is also supported by the fact that the previously solid home record has also suffered in recent weeks. Werder have gone three games without a win at home. The former German champions have conceded three or more goals in front of their own fans on four occasions. This was last the case in 2019/20, when Bremen had to go into the relegation play-offs after a disastrous season and only just managed to stay in the league against Heidenheim.

Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form

While Werder Bremen is having its weakest Bundesliga season in six years, TSG Hoffenheim’s 36 points are the second-best tally in the club’s history. If they manage an away win on Tuesday evening, they will equal the club record of 39 points after 19 matchdays! In many respects, the chances are very good. The momentum in particular is swinging in favor of the surprise third-placed team.

Hoffenheim dreams of the Champions League

The Sinsheim club is the only first division team to have won all of its matches in the 2026 soccer season. A 5-1 home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach was followed by a 1-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen and a 3-1 win in Frankfurt last weekend. Not only does Ilzer’s team top the form table with 13 points from their last five games, but their nine wins in their last twelve Bundesliga matches are also an impressive statistic that has boosted their confidence exponentially.

Another positive aspect is that the team from the Rhine-Neckar region is one of the best away teams in the league. Only Dortmund and Bayern have picked up more points on the road than TSG, who have lost just one of their last eleven away games in the Bundesliga across all seasons. Also noteworthy: in eight of the last twelve Bundesliga matches, Asllani, Kramaric, and Co. scored at least three goals.

Against this backdrop, it may also be an option to check the betting odds between Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim to see if TSG will score at least once in both halves.

Werder Bremen – Hoffenheim Head-to-head comparison / H2H record

As if the arguments in favor of Hoffenheim weren’t enough, the head-to-head record also clearly favors the Kraichgauers. In fact, Werder Bremen has not won any of its last ten Bundesliga home games against TSG (0-5-5). Only against FC Bayern have Bremen waited longer for a home win than against their upcoming opponents. The last match of the previous season ended in a 3-1 win for Hoffenheim at the Weserstadion. Another interesting note is that the last seven Bundesliga matches between these teams have all seen over 2.5 goals scored.

Werder Bremen – Hoffenheim Tip

SV Werder Bremen are really struggling at the moment. Steffen’s team have not won eight Bundesliga games in a row. They have only picked up a single point from their three games since the winter break. At the weekend, it was once again the far too harmless offense that lacked any punch in the 0-1 defeat in Leverkusen. Against TSG, who have conceded just three goals in their last five Bundesliga games – the best record in the league – there are therefore hardly any arguments to suggest that the hosts will be successful.

Instead, it must be taken into account that Hoffenheim are the strongest team in the Bundesliga, have lost only one of their last eleven away games in the top flight and are brimming with confidence. The absence of Werder’s defensive leader Marco Friedl, who is suspended after picking up a yellow card, is another complication for the home side. All in all, I believe there is almost no alternative but to bet on the visitors to win between Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim.
