Will the Werkself stumble on the Weser too?
After numerous departures and a change of coach, not much remains of Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten championship season in 2023/24. But what remains is their unbeaten run away from home. The Werkself have not lost in 34 consecutive Bundesliga away games (23 wins, 11 draws), which is a current Bundesliga record.
However, since a 1-2 defeat dating back to October 2016, the Black and Reds have remained completely unbeaten in seven Bundesliga away games on the Weser (four wins, three draws). Accordingly, the prediction for Werder Bremen vs. Leverkusen is that the revamped Werkself, now under Erik ten Hag, will be able to avoid defeat in Bremen, especially since SVW not only lost to second division side Bielefeld in the cup (0-1), but also suffered a heavy defeat in their Bundesliga opener in Frankfurt (1-4).
Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, suffered a sobering 1-2 home defeat to TSG Hoffenheim in their Bundesliga opener. This away game on the Weser will now be decisive. However, that assessment could quickly change if the results continue to be poor, which we would not rule out, especially since SVW is not only unbeaten in its last four Bundesliga home games (two wins, two draws), but has also kept a clean sheet in all four of those games.
Against this backdrop, we do not expect a goal fest at the Weserstadion and, with our betting recommendation that a maximum of three goals will be scored, we are also sidestepping the question of who will win the game. If you want to take advantage of higher odds for Werder Bremen vs. Leverkusen, you can bet at VBET, where new customers can also get a €5 free bet without deposit with the VBET bonus, at odds of 2.05 that the Black and Reds will score a maximum of one away goal.
Werder Bremen vs. Leverkusen Prediction AI
Basically, the BETSiE supercomputer does not expect four or even more goals to be scored at the Weser. The AI calculates an expected goals value of 1.03 for SVW and 1.65 for Leverkusen. However, the AI finds far more value in the underdog bet. The odds of 5.05 offered in the NEO.bet app for a Bremen home win suggest a probability of 19.8 percent. BETSiE, on the other hand, calculates a 24.5 percent chance of victory for the Green-Whites, which is significantly higher.
Werder Bremen – Statistics & current form
The trend is double-edged: Werder has won only one of its last ten Bundesliga matches against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (five draws, four defeats). However, the most recent encounter in March 2025 ended in a 2-0 away win. On the Weser, however, history tends to favor the Green-Whites: Leverkusen has a lower away win rate in the top flight than in Bremen only at FC Bayern (nine percent vs. 20 percent in at least 15 away games).
Added to this is their stable home form: Werder have not lost any of their last four Bundesliga home games (two wins, two draws) and have not conceded a goal in any of them. Another clean sheet would set a club record: the last time they went five home games in a row without conceding a goal was from February to April 1993. That makes the odds suggested by BETSiE for Werder Bremen vs. Leverkusen all the more interesting.
Will Werder Bremen turn their poor start around thanks to Njinmah?
The situation is clear: Werder’s current home form is up against Leverkusen’s historic away run. At the same time, the start of the season is a warning: four goals conceded on the first matchday – only Leipzig conceded more. Justin Njinmah could be the deciding factor in attack: he scored his tenth Bundesliga goal in the 1-4 defeat in Frankfurt and could now score in two consecutive games for the first time. Back in March, he scored the final goal in a 2-0 win against Leverkusen. He has scored more points in the top flight against Leverkusen than against any other opponent (two, as against Cologne and Mainz).
There is also excitement on the sidelines: Horst Steffen started with two competitive defeats on the Weser. A third defeat would be a negative milestone for Bremen, even though he once scored more goals against Leverkusen than against any other club as a player (four goals in twelve games).

Leverkusen – Statistics & current form
Form curves and streaks tell different stories in the Rhineland: On the one hand, Leverkusen has been winless in four Bundesliga games across two seasons (two draws, two defeats) – the longest such streak since April/May 2023. At the same time, the team has set a historic record away from home: the Black and Reds are now unbeaten in 34 Bundesliga away games (23 wins, 11 draws) – a current league record.
The Werkself last lost 2-1 at the Weserstadion in October 2016 and have since gone seven games without defeat (four wins, three draws). Moreover, Bayer 04 has only started one season in the past six with two defeats (2022/23 even with three). Accordingly, the tip for Werder Bremen against Leverkusen is for the away streak to continue.
Leverkusen and the negligent handling of leads
However, it is worrying that the Rhinelanders only had seven shots on goal in their 1-2 defeat to Hoffenheim (the lowest in the league at the start of the season) and once again squandered a lead. Since the start of last season, they have lost 23 points in this way (joint highest in the league with Stuttgart). Álejandro Grimaldo has been a constant source of assists: with 21 Bundesliga assists since his debut in August 2023, he has been surpassed only by Florian Wirtz (23) and is tied with Julian Brandt.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag also lost his first Bundesliga game as Leverkusen coach. The last time Werkself suffered two defeats in their first two games was under Dettmar Cramer in 1982…

Werder Bremen – Leverkusen Head-to-head record
Head to head: 37 – 36 – 28
A total of 101 matches have taken place between the two teams so far, with SV Werder Bremen leading the head-to-head record with 37 wins. The Green-Whites also picked up four out of a possible six points against the Werkself last season and won the last duel to date in March 2025 away from home with a 2-0 victory in the Rhineland. Prior to that, however, SVW had gone nine consecutive games without a win against Bayer Leverkusen (five draws, four defeats).
Werder Bremen – Leverkusen Tip
There is a lot to suggest that Werder Bremen’s prediction that Leverkusen will be able to extend their unbeaten run on the road to the Weser will come true. Nevertheless, given the Green-Whites’ recent home run, in which they have not conceded a goal in four Bundesliga home games, a home win for Horst Steffen’s team cannot be categorically ruled out, especially since the Werkself, after their botched opening game (1-2 against Hoffenheim), still have to prove that they can compete at the top of the table under Erik ten Hag.
It therefore makes sense to avoid the vague three-way system in this duel. There are many indications that there will be no goal fest on the Weser, which is why we ultimately recommend betting on a maximum of three goals being scored.
For under 3.5 goals, the betting odds for Werder Bremen vs. Leverkusen are 1.53, which we are betting on with seven out of ten units via the useful Bet365 app.
