Will RBL secure their Champions League spot on the Weser?

RB Leipzig headed into the international break with a display of their strength. At home against TSG Hoffenheim, the Saxons prevailed 5-0 and showcased outstanding form. Thanks to the lopsided victory, the team from Leipzig climbed to fourth place in the standings and, as things stand, would be guaranteed a spot in the group stage of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.

The team now needs to carry this momentum forward and secure another three points this weekend in the 28th matchday of the Bundesliga. At German bookmakers, the odds for an away win in the Werder Bremen vs. RB Leipzig match are already lower.

However, the hosts from the Weser have also been on a positive run of late. Werder have won three of their last four Bundesliga matches, thereby securing a small four-point cushion over 16th place. Nevertheless, when considering the Werder Bremen vs. RB Leipzig prediction, it must be noted that all of Thioune’s team’s aforementioned victories came against direct rivals. Against the league’s top teams, however, the traditional club from the Hanseatic city struggles greatly.

My inclination therefore leans more toward an away win. Leipzig has more quality, has recently gained a lot of confidence, and also boasts a strong record against SV Werder. Against no other current Bundesliga team does Bremen have a higher loss rate than against RBL (65%).

Werder Bremen vs. RB Leipzig AI Prediction

The artificial intelligence has made 237 predictions in the Bundesliga this season, 113 of which were correct. That corresponds to a return of -4.34% and -10.30 units. This makes it all the more interesting that the Wettbasis supercomputer is also issuing a surprising AI prediction for the match between Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig. Based on win probabilities, projected xG values, and in context with the betting odds, the AI recommends a home win for the North Germans at maximum odds of 3.45 in the Betano app.

Werder Bremen – Statistics & Current Form

SV Werder Bremen significantly improved its position in the Bundesliga relegation battle just before the international break. Thanks to nine points from its last four matches, Bremen jumped to 14th place and now has a four-point lead over the relegation spot and even a seemingly comfortable seven-point cushion over Wolfsburg, which occupies 17th place.

Nevertheless, the atmosphere at the Osterdeich remains tense. On the one hand, this is because the performances on display were still quite poor by any standard. On the other hand, the remaining schedule is also causing headaches here and there. In the first half of the season, Bremen managed to secure just two points from their last seven matches. If this tally isn’t multiplied in matchdays 28–34, relegation to the second division looms.

Will Werder Bremen once again hit their limits at home?

That Werder Bremen is considered the underdog against RB Leipzig on Saturday afternoon, according to the betting odds, is therefore entirely understandable in my view. The North Germans have won only one of their last eight Bundesliga home games. Since the international break in November, the Green-Whites have managed to pick up a meager six points in front of their home crowd. This tally matches the joint lowest total among all 18 Bundesliga teams—along with the bottom-placed side from Heidenheim.

Since the former German champions also failed to score in three of their last five home games—losing relatively convincingly to Bayern (0-3), Mainz (0-2), and TSG Hoffenheim (0-2), I’m once again predicting an away win ahead of the Werder Bremen vs. RB Leipzig match. Alternatively, you can find solid 1.62 odds at Betano for Bremen scoring no more than one goal.

RB Leipzig – Stats & Current Form

A few weeks ago, Oliver Mintzlaff, RB’s sporting director, clearly stated the goal of returning to the Champions League in 2026/27. Although it is still not definitively clear whether four or five German teams will qualify for the Champions League next season, the Saxons have recently taken a major step toward that goal. The 5-0 home win against TSG Hoffenheim was, for many experts, the best performance of the season by coach Ole Werner’s team, which has climbed to fourth place and now has its sights firmly set on VfB Stuttgart in third.

Will the RBL offense overwhelm the Werder defense?

Just one loss in the last seven games looks very promising. Only FC Bayern has created more big chances than Leipzig (96) over the course of the season. By the way: Werder Bremen has only managed half as many clear-cut chances (48). Since the “Red Bulls” have also gotten their occasional away-game phobia somewhat under control and have three wins in their last five matches on the road, the arguments in favor of RBL outweigh those against.

As potential goal scorers, I have two players on my radar for the capital city team. First, Christoph Baumgartner, who has even scored twice in three of his last seven Bundesliga appearances and leads the team’s internal scoring list with twelve goals as a midfielder. And second, Brajan Gruda, who has established himself as a fixture in the offense since his winter transfer and was directly involved in three goals against Hoffenheim (two goals, one assist).

Werder Bremen – RB Leipzig Head-to-Head Record

The head-to-head record also tips the scales in favor of the Saxons. RB Leipzig has lost only two of a total of 17 Bundesliga matches against Werder Bremen. In contrast, there have been eleven RB wins and even four draws. Bremen has not beaten the two-time cup winner from the east of the country since May 2019. Still, at home, Werder has managed to hold Leipzig to a draw in each of the last two seasons. The first leg at the Red Bull Arena in late November, however, was a fairly clear-cut affair in favor of Werner’s side, who deservedly won 2-0.

Werder Bremen – RB Leipzig Prediction

Ole Werner spent four years on the sidelines at Werder Bremen. Behind Thomas Schaaf and Florian Kohfeldt, Werner is thus the Bremen coach with the third-most Bundesliga matches in history. In the summer, however, the young head coach moved to RB Leipzig and aims to win his first competitive match against Daniel Thioune there in his fifth attempt.

The odds have rarely been better, as the Saxons are—despite the away game—the favorites and are in good form. While Bremen has also won three of its last four games, it has often benefited from the struggles of the teams directly fighting relegation. I therefore recommend betting on an away win ahead of the match between Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig.
