Will Bern secure the first three points of the new season?

Are the roles clearly defined? With a squad value of €82.50 million, the home side are significantly better equipped than their visitors (€21.80 million). However, if we look at last season’s standings, the picture is somewhat different. The “Grenats” finished ahead of YB and even secured the runners-up spot. That will also be the reason why the Young Boys vs. Servette Geneva odds are not quite as clear-cut for a home win as might have been expected.

However, the squad value alone is not enough for us to blindly bet on the supposed favorites. In our Young Boys vs. Servette Geneva prediction, we therefore take a closer look at both teams. We start with the home and away records of the two teams and immediately come to an interesting conclusion. Last year, no other club in Switzerland picked up more points at home than YB (43). In addition, the hosts failed to pick up a point in only two of their 19 home games – that’s just 10.53%. By comparison, the visitors picked up just 29 points in 19 away games and won only 42.10% of their away matches.

Young Boys – Statistics & current form

Young Boys Bern will not have been satisfied with the past season. Giorgio Contini’s team picked up “only” 61 points from 38 games, finishing third in the Swiss Super League. This meant that YB not only failed to defend their title, but also missed out on qualifying for the Champions League. However, the previous season was not a complete disaster, as the 17-time champions will compete in the Europa League qualifiers this year. Nevertheless, the goals for the coming season remain as high as ever, as anything less than the championship would be a disappointment. Is YB one of the title contenders?

Young Boys need a top striker

With 60 goals in 38 league games (⌀ 1.58), the home side were neither particularly good nor particularly bad last season. In fact, Giorgio Contini’s team only ranked fifth in the league with this score. However, things looked different at home, where the Young Boys were unstoppable with 43 goals in 19 home games (⌀ 2.26) and even had the best home attack in the Super League. Nevertheless, the home side currently lacks a clinical center forward, with Cedric Itten the most dangerous striker with only eight league goals. So far, however, no new signing has been made for the center forward position – a risky move, in our opinion.

Young Boys are very solid defensively

Giorgio Contini’s team definitely needs to work on its goal-scoring record in away games. The picture is quite similar in defense. With 49 goals conceded in 38 games (⌀ 1.29), YB looks very respectable on paper, but has conceded far too many goals away from home. In 19 away games, Bern had to pick the ball out of their own net 30 times, making them far too vulnerable. For this reason, the club brought in Gregory Wüthrich and Edimilson Fernandes to stabilize the defense. However, this will not be immediately apparent at the start of the season, as the two new signings will need time to settle in.

Servette Geneva – Statistics & current form

Servette Geneva did an excellent job last season, picking up 63 points from 38 games to finish runners-up. But it gets even better, because finishing second in the Super League means Thomas Häberli’s team has also qualified for the Champions League qualifying round. The “Grenats” have already celebrated their first partial success there, winning the first leg against Viktoria Pilsen 1-0. However, qualification for the next round is not yet certain, as the second leg will be played on July 30, 2025. For us, this is also a reason why the duel with Young Boys Bern is somewhat secondary. Participation in the Champions League brings in a lot of money and is therefore the top priority.

Servette Geneva poses a serious goal threat

With 64 goals in 38 league games (⌀ 1.68), the visitors had one of the best attacks in the Swiss top flight last season. In fact, only two teams scored more often: FC Lucerne and FC Basel. In addition, Thomas Häberli’s team failed to score only six times, finding the back of the net in 84.21% of their games. However, the “Grenats” lost their top scorer (15 league goals) Dereck Kutesa to AEK Athens in the summer. The visitors have signed an interesting replacement in Samuel Mraz, who scored in his first game against Viktoria Pilsen.

Servette Geneva concedes too many goals

Offensively, the visitors are certainly capable of causing problems for Young Boys. The question now is whether Thomas Häberli’s team can also pose a challenge for YB defensively. We say no, because with 55 goals conceded in 38 league games (⌀ 1.45), the “Grenats” were already too vulnerable last season. In addition, the visitors kept a clean sheet only eight times, conceding at least one goal in 78.95% of their games. A clean sheet is therefore unlikely against the best home team in the Swiss top flight. That is also why we believe the visitors will earn a maximum of one point.

Young Boys – Servette Geneva Head-to-head record / H2H record

In the first two paragraphs of our analysis, YB has the edge. In addition to their outstanding home record, the individual quality of the home side also speaks in their favor. However, the H2H comparison paints a slightly different picture, with 79 of the 190 encounters going to the away team. By comparison, the hosts have won “only” 69 games. In the recent past, however, the tide has turned, with Geneva currently waiting for a win against the Black and Yellows in their last three encounters. This will be another reason why the Young Boys vs. Servette Geneva betting odds are leaning against an away win.

Young Boys – Servette Geneva Tip

Taking all of the above into account, we have decided to go for a point for the away team in combination with over 1.5 goals in our Young Boys vs. Servette Geneva betting tip. YB are extremely difficult to beat at home and show a completely different side to themselves away from home. In addition, Giorgio Contini’s team has remained unbeaten in its last three matches against Geneva, thus also winning the head-to-head comparison. Furthermore, the “Grenats” have an important match in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers coming up in a few days and will probably prioritize the match against Viktoria Pilsen.

Alternatively, we recommend the Young Boys vs. Servette Geneva odds for “both teams to score – yes.” This is primarily because both teams have plenty of quality in attack and are somewhat vulnerable in defense. In addition, we are at the beginning of a new season, and there are usually more goals than when the teams are already gelled and in flow. Furthermore, the last match between the two teams at the Wankdorf Stadium ended 2-1.
