Will the Muscovite stumble?
Andrey Rublev will primarily be pleased to be able to compete in the Indian Wells Masters at all. After the Dubai-based Russian was unsure whether he would make it to the United States in time due to airspace closures in the Middle East, it is now clear that the match will go ahead.
The question is how much the uncertainty of the last few days will affect the outcome of the match between Andrey Rublev and Gabriel Diallo. After all, the Moscow native has slipped up several times at the Masters tournament in California. Just a year ago, he lost 0-2 to Matteo Arnaldi in his very first match.
It should be noted that Andrey Rublev is having a fundamentally strong season, winning ten of his 14 singles matches. However, there are reasons why the Russian has only won two major titles in his career (both on clay, incidentally) and has never made it past the quarterfinals in Grand Slam tournaments.
Time and again, the Muscovite lacks the necessary consistency and often has to admit defeat to opponents who are significantly lower in the rankings. It’s a long way to go before the underdog bet pays off. However, we believe Gabriel Diallo is capable of winning at least one set, which is why we are giving the Canadian a handicap of +1.5 sets in our Rublev vs. Diallo prediction.
Andrey Rublev is currently “only” ranked 17th in the ATP world rankings. In the past, however, the Russian was firmly established in the top 10 and was even ranked fifth in the fall of 2021. It is striking that Gabriel Diallo has not yet won a single match in nine singles matches against current top 10 players. Nevertheless, we believe that the current world number 38 will put in a strong performance after his opening victory over Mattia Bellucci. It is therefore not unlikely that the match will go the full distance of three sets.
Andrey Rublev – Gabriel Diallo Head-to-head record
Head to head: 0:0
The two players have never faced each other in a ranked singles match before. Consequently, there is no head-to-head data available that could influence our prediction in any way for Andrey Rublev vs. Gabriel Diallo.
Andrey Rublev – Gabriel Diallo Tip
Of course, despite the stress of leaving Dubai, the Russian is the clear favorite going into this match. However, due to his lack of consistency, which has always prevented him from reaching the very top of the world rankings, we would not assume that the Muscovite, who missed the ATP Finals for the first time in five years in 2025, will celebrate an unchallenged victory on his debut in Indian Wells.
A year ago, he was eliminated 0-2 in his very first match against an unseeded player. Consequently, we believe Gabriel Diallo has a good chance of making it to the third round of the first Masters tournament of the 2026 season after his 2-0 opening victory over Mattia Bellucci.
Since we believe the Canadian can win the set, we think that most eventualities can be covered by placing a handicap of +1.5 sets on the supposed underdog. For this, Interwetten is offering odds of 1.85 for Andrey Rublev against Gabriel Diallo, which we are betting on with five out of ten units.
