Will the Frenchman surprise us?
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated the ATP Tour for two years. Eight consecutive Grand Slam tournaments have recently slipped into the hands of one of these two players. In the Carlos Alcaraz vs. Corentin Moutet tip, the Spaniard continues to pursue his career Grand Slam.
So far, the 22-year-old has six Grand Slam trophies in his cabinet. The world number one has yet to win the Australian Open, the only major tournament he has not won. The Spaniard won his first two appearances at the Happy Slam without losing a set. This streak could end in our Carlos Alcaraz vs. Corentin Moutet prediction.
The 24-time ATP title winner has hardly celebrated any major victories Down Under so far.
In his career, the six-time Grand Slam champion has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. Alcaraz has already had to show his resilience in this tournament.
It took the Spaniard 78 minutes to win the first set against Yannick Hanfmann.
Never before has the 22-year-old played a longer set at a Grand Slam tournament.
The 26-year-old has yet to win a title in his career, but has just finished the best season of his professional career. Last year, the world number 37 won 33 matches and lost in the finals of two tournaments.
The Frenchman maintained his form over the winter and put in two very solid performances at the start of the tournament, dropping only one set in total.
Carlos Alcaraz – Corentin Moutet Head-to-head record
So far, the two opponents have not faced each other on a tennis court. Neither in an official match nor in a training session have either of the two pros gained experience playing against each other. Perhaps this will open up a small gap for the 26-year-old underdog.
Moutet has been polarizing on the tour for years. He is a creative player with some extremely individual solutions. Last year, the left-hander appeared much more focused than in previous seasons and even beat two top 10 players during the season.
Carlos Alcaraz – Corentin Moutet Tip
Corentin Moutet is not one to shy away from big moments. Even on the biggest stage, the Frenchman resorts to underarm serves. The challenger’s game is peppered with slice shots and permeated with drop shots. All of these shots serve the purpose of disrupting his opponent’s rhythm.
These stylistic devices already helped Moutet to two top 10 victories in the previous season. The 26-year-old beat Holger Rune and also defeated Taylor Fritz. Furthermore, he brought Daniil Medvedev to the brink of defeat (1:2) in the ATP 250 final in Almaty.
However, we don’t think Moutet will win more than one set. Alcaraz has made an excellent start to the tournament and has shown no signs of uncertainty following his split from Juan Carlos Ferrero. The enthusiastic Spaniard moved fluidly as ever across the court in his first two rounds.
