The German regularly delivers his best performances on red clay. After reaching the second round of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, the number 61 in the ATP world rankings advanced to the fourth round at Roland Garros for the second time. The 26-year-old surprised on hard court this season with some good results. At the ATP500 tournament in Rotterdam, Altmaier was only defeated in the quarterfinals by Alex de Minaur, having previously knocked Arthur Fils (world number 19) out of the tournament.

The Kempen native was able to build on these performances in subsequent tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals in Marseille (ATP250). Adding up his results from Grand Slam matches so far in 2025, he has a positive record (4-3).

On the tour, however, the Kempen native needs to be a little more consistent (currently 13-17 wins) to achieve his goal. According to his own statements, the 26-year-old wants to qualify for the upcoming Australian Open as a seeded player. To do so, Altmaier must finish the calendar year among the 32 best professionals in the world.
Mitchell Krueger – Statistics & current form
Mitchell Krueger has been a professional tennis player since 2012, but has never reached the top 100 in his career. The American achieved his best ranking in 2022, when he was listed in 135th place. At the moment, the 31-year-old is ranked a little further down the list (159th).
At the beginning of the year, Krueger surprised everyone by reaching the second round of the Australian Open. The American won his opening match without losing a set, beating Hijikata 3-0. However, he was unable to put his second opponent, Moutet, in trouble (1:3).
Kruger was only able to build on this form on rare occasions in the weeks and months that followed. The 31-year-old missed out on both the main draw at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, failing in the first qualifying round on both occasions. In both cases, his opponents were ranked outside the top 100.
Krueger can be dangerous on hard courts
Krueger has rarely played at tour level. Eleven wins and 24 losses is a record that shouldn’t cause Altmaier to break out in a sweat. If the American can rise above himself, then it will be on a hard court.
However, Krueger has not shown the same level of form this calendar year as he did last year. Including his matches at Challenger level, Krueger travels to Mexico with a negative season record of 16-20 wins (6-9 on hard courts). His performance last year was much more encouraging (42-31 wins, 30-17 on hard courts).
Just like Altmaier, the 31-year-old is switching back from grass to hard courts for the tournament in Los Cabos. His grass court season ended in a fiasco. The Challenger tournament in Newport ended in the second round, but against the world number 601, A. Ghibaudo.
