No chance for the Styrian?
Sebastian Ofner, who is competing in the US Open men’s singles for the third year in a row thanks to his protected ranking, has been handed a tough draw in the first round. The Styrian will “only” face the number twelve seed, but the Norwegian reached the final of the hard court Grand Slam in New York City in 2022, which is why the odds are stacked against Sebastian Ofner surviving the first round against Casper Ruud.
Accordingly, the odds for Sebastian Ofner against Casper Ruud are low for a Norwegian victory, although the Norwegian has had some extreme fluctuations in performance in 2025. On the one hand, he finally won a major final in Madrid after losing six major tournament finals. On the other hand, he did not make it past the second round in any Grand Slam tournament. Nevertheless, Casper Ruud has not lost in the first round of a Grand Slam tournament since Wimbledon 2021, which is why Sebastian Ofner is unlikely to win more than one set. To take into account the Norwegian’s lack of consistency, it is still worth betting that this match will not be decided in three straight sets.
Ultimately, it would be a huge surprise if the Austrian, who has won only one singles match in his career at the US Open (a 3-1 victory over Nuno Borges in the 2023 edition), were to knock out the number twelve seed. However, because the odds for betting on the Norwegian to advance are too low, it would be conceivable to place a small handicap on him.
Sebastian Ofner – Casper Ruud Head-to-head record
Head to head: 0:2
The two players have already met twice, and in both cases Casper Ruud prevailed against the Styrian. While the first duel in the quarterfinals of the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden, ended in a smooth 2:0 victory, Sebastian Ofner did manage to win the first set against the Norwegian at the Gonet Geneva Open in Geneva in May 2024, but ultimately lost the second-round match 1:2. Now, both players will face each other on hard court for the first time.
Sebastian Ofner – Casper Ruud Tip
Basically, in the match between Sebastian Ofner and Casper Ruud, there is little alternative to predicting that the Norwegian will advance, even though the Oslo player has had more ups and downs this season than ever before. In 2025, the world number twelve won his first major title in Madrid. On the other hand, the three-time Grand Slam finalist – including the 2022 US Open – has not made it past the second round in any Grand Slam tournament. However, his challenger from Styria, against whom Casper Ruud leads 2-0 in head-to-head matches, has only won one singles match in his career at Flushing Meadows.
The atmosphere in the large Louis Armstrong Stadium, where this match will kick off the evening session, could still carry the Austrian, who has nothing to lose here, to at least one set win. It is therefore very interesting to bet that this match will not be decided in three sets.
For over 3.5 sets, the betting odds for Sebastian Ofner against Casper Ruud are 1.65, which we are betting on with four out of ten units at Bet-at-home.
