First ATP title for ‘Hanfi’?
The German recently defeated Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, successfully taking revenge on the South American after he knocked him out in the second round of last year’s tournament in the Chilean capital.
The 34-year-old now has the chance to win his long-awaited first title on the ATP Tour! “Hanfi” has been in two finals so far, both on clay, as in Santiago. However, his opponent from Italy also feels particularly comfortable on this surface and, unsurprisingly, reached the final on the court of the Club Deportivo Universidad Católica. Darderi was seeded number 2 and has already been in the final of the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires on clay this year.
There, however, he lost to Cerundolo, Hanfmann’s last opponent. Unlike the German, however, he already has four ATP titles on this surface and has been in very consistent form in recent weeks. For the match between Yannick Hanfmann and Luciano Darderi, the prediction is now for a victory for the Italian in two sets.
Yannick Hanfmann – Luciano Darderi Head-to-head record
The South German and the Argentine-born Italian last faced each other in February 2024 in the quarterfinals of the clay court tournament in Cordoba, Argentina. The Italian won the match in two sets, repeating his success in the first duel between the two players, which also took place in Cordoba in 2023.
For the upcoming duel in Santiago de Chile between Yannick Hanfmann and Luciano Darderi, the odds are now pointing towards a third defeat for the German.
Yannick Hanfmann – Luciano Darderi Tip
Yannick Hanfmann has seven titles on the Challenger Tour to his name, but he has yet to achieve an ATP triumph in his career. Although he has already reached the finals in Gstaad and Kitzbühel, he was defeated on both occasions. Like the tournament in Santiago de Chile, both competitions are played on clay, and the Baden native has won six of his seven Challenger-level titles on this surface.
Hanfmann can therefore be described as a proven clay court specialist. In addition, his victory over Cerundolo in the semifinals will give him a boost. Previously, he had only won once against the Argentine in six attempts, and that was only because his opponent retired. However, he faces a particularly tough opponent in Darderi. The 24-year-old reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at this year’s Australian Open and, like Hanfmann, is particularly strong on clay.
In his three tournament appearances in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and currently in Santiago since the “Happy Slam” at the beginning of the year, he has won six of eight matches. Moreover, he recently defeated Sebastian Baez, the best player of recent years at this tournament. The Argentine has reached the final three times in the past four years and triumphed in the penultimate edition.
The fact that the Italian defeated Baez in straight sets in the last semifinal quickly shows how well the right-hander is playing. Against this backdrop, we are opting for betting odds on another victory for the Italian in two sets in the final between Yannick Hanfmann and Luciano Darderi. His record against the German also speaks in favor of this: he has played him twice on clay and Hanfmann has always left the court as the loser after two sets.
