Will Atalanta finally confirm their upward trend away from home?

Just under three weeks after CFC Genoa and Atalanta Bergamo faced each other in the Coppa Italia, with the Champions League participants from Lombardy winning 4-0 at home, the two sides now meet in a direct duel in Serie A. Looking at the standings, this is surprisingly a clash between two teams from the lower half of the table.

While the Red and Blues could be expected to be in the lower reaches of the table, the Bergamaschi are lagging far behind their own expectations. Nevertheless, I expect that the tip on coach Raffaele Palladino’s team will prove true in the match between Genoa and Atalanta Bergamo.

Since Palladino took charge at “La Dea,” there has been a clear upward trend. Atalanta has won five of seven competitive games under his leadership. Among other things, the former Europa League winner also won convincingly in the Champions League at Eintracht Frankfurt (3-0) and at home against Chelsea. Looking back, there have been five wins in the last six games across all competitions.

The good form, coupled with the regained offensive threat, which is reflected in the fact that the Blue and Blacks have always scored at least two goals in the course of their five wins, supports my Genoa vs. Atalanta Bergamo prediction of a win for the visitors.

This is not changed by the fact that the 41-year-old coach will definitely have to make two changes to his starting lineup at the weekend. Odilon Kossounou from the back three and key player Ademola Lookman have left to join their national teams for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

This means that even more responsibility rests on the tattooed shoulders of Gianluca Scamacca. The striker, who has recently been plagued by serious injuries, is in brilliant form and has scored in three consecutive competitive games for the Nerazzurri. Under Palladino, Scamacca is a fixture in the two-man attack, which he has repaid impressively with a total of six goal contributions in seven games.

Genoa – Atalanta Bergamo Head-to-head record

The head-to-head record also paints a very clear picture in favor of Atalanta Bergamo. The 4-0 victory in the cup at the beginning of December, which was secured at home but still showed the Champions League participants’ dominance, was already mentioned in the introduction. It was the twelfth consecutive competitive match that the Bergamo team had not lost against Genoa. Currently, they have even won five games in a row. Overall, “La Dea” has eight wins and four draws in the last twelve matches. In Genoa, the blue and blacks have celebrated four wins in the last five matches!

Genoa – Atalanta Bergamo Tip

Much has already been written about Atalanta Bergamo. What is the status quo at Italy’s oldest surviving soccer club? Last week, “Il Grifone” lost 2-1 at home to Champions League finalists Inter Milan. It was their second defeat in six competitive games since Daniele de Rossi took over as coach.

At the same time, the Red and Blues suffered their sixth defeat in their eighth home game of the Serie A season. Their penultimate place in the home standings, qualitative disadvantages compared to their upcoming opponents, and impressions from direct comparisons thus underline the Genoa vs. Atalanta Bergamo betting odds in favor of the visitors.

I agree with the bookmakers’ assessment and recommend betting on an away win ahead of the Genoa vs. Atalanta Bergamo match.
