Will Fenerbahçe remain winless in the Champions League?
Dirk Kuyt is set for a very special Champions League night: As Fenerbahçe’s interim coach, he’ll face his former club on Wednesday. Anyone looking for a Fenerbahçe vs. Liverpool prediction can’t help but notice this personal connection.
From 2006 to 2012, the Dutchman played for the Reds, scoring 71 goals in 285 competitive matches and becoming a fan favorite at Anfield Road. The 104-time national team player then spent three years with Fenerbahçe. Although Kuyt has already coached at Beerschot, ADO Den Haag, and Dordrecht, he lacks experience on the biggest European stage.
Last weekend, too, did not go according to plan for the former national team player and star striker. Fenerbahçe lost Kuyt’s home debut 1–2 to Göztepe, while Liverpool, despite a dominant performance for long stretches, fell 0–1 to English champions Arsenal.
For the Fenerbahçe vs. Liverpool prediction, however, the team’s current standing in the Champions League is the key factor. The Turks have just two points after three matches and are still waiting for their first win. Given this difficult situation, a victory at home in Chobani Stadium is practically a must. Liverpool, on the other hand, arrives with the maximum nine points from three matches and can therefore take the field with confidence.
All things considered, it’s therefore somewhat surprising that odds ranging from 1.55 to 1.60 are still being offered for an away win in the Fenerbahçe vs. Liverpool match. In my view, Coach Andoni Iraola’s team should currently be the clear favorite.
However, scoring the first goal could help the Canaries from Istanbul. Fenerbahçe has never lost a Champions League match when leading 1-0—a small glimmer of hope for the hosts.
Fenerbahçe vs. Liverpool AI Prediction
The Fenerbahçe vs. Liverpool AI prediction sees the visitors with a clear advantage. With an expected xG of 1.14 to 1.93 in favor of the Reds and a calculated chance of winning at 58%, there’s a strong case for an away victory. However, the fair odds for Liverpool would therefore need to be closer to 1.70. Given the odds currently on offer, I don’t see any real value in betting on a standard away win.
Instead, the goals market seems more interesting to me: With a combined xG value of 3.07, the 1.72 odds on “Over 3 Goals” (Asian handicap) look appealing. This would at least guarantee a refund of the stake if exactly three goals are scored, while four or more goals would result in a winning bet.
Fenerbahçe – Statistics & Current Form
Fenerbahçe is going through a difficult phase ahead of its Champions League clash with Liverpool. Its most recent results, in particular, highlight just how much turmoil the team is currently facing in Istanbul—and why its defense is likely to face a particularly tough test against the offensively potent English side.
Fenerbahçe is in the midst of a real slump, having managed just one win, one draw, and three losses in its last five competitive matches. Particularly bitter: The crushing 0–6 loss to Aston Villa in the Champions League was followed by two more setbacks in the Süper Lig—a 1–2 defeat in the derby at Galatasaray and, most recently, a 1–2 loss at home to Göztepe over the weekend. As a result, the gap to league-leading archrival Galatasaray has already grown to nine points. Fener is also under pressure on the international stage. After three group-stage matches, the team is still winless and has collected only two points.
Only Lille and Bratislava have conceded more Champions League goals than Fenerbahçe so far
The biggest area of concern right now is clearly the defense. Conceding nine goals in the first three Champions League matches is a clear warning sign—especially against a Liverpool offense that has already proven its potency multiple times in the Champions League.
On the other hand, Fenerbahçe certainly possesses offensive quality: for the current Süper Lig season, they have an average xG of 1.89 and an xGA of 1.53 per game; at home, these figures rise to 2.06 xG and 1.65 xGA. So while the team creates chances, it also regularly allows the opponent opportunities.
The fact that the Over 2.5 goals mark has been surpassed in six of their last seven home games underscores that matches in front of their home crowd are often high-scoring. With an eye on the Fenerbahçe vs. Liverpool betting odds, it may therefore be particularly interesting to consider Over goal bets.

Liverpool – Statistics & Current Form
In recent weeks, Liverpool has increasingly evolved into a team that can pose enormous problems for any opponent with its pace and intensity. The new style of high-octane soccer under Andoni Iraola is really coming into its own: aggressive counter-pressing, a high work rate, and a relentless drive forward characterize the Reds’ play. After some initial struggles, it’s now truly fun to watch this team again. It’s no coincidence that Liverpool had won five consecutive competitive matches before their 0–1 loss to Arsenal. And even against the English champions, their performance was convincing for long stretches.
Will Liverpool’s Champions League record remain perfect this season?
In the Champions League, Liverpool is currently among the very best and is one of only five clubs with a perfect record after the first three matchdays. Twelve goals scored is also the most the club has tallied after three European matches since the 1980–81 season—back then, by the way, the Reds went on to win the title. Now, a seventh consecutive group stage victory is within reach. Iraola’s team is also putting on an impressive showing on the road: four straight competitive wins away from home underscore their current stability.
Their offensive consistency is also particularly noteworthy: In four of their last five Champions League group stage matches, Liverpool has scored at least three goals.
Given this firepower, I can even imagine the English side pulling off a handicap victory in their matchup against Fenerbahçe.

Fenerbahçe – Liverpool Head-to-Head Record
There has actually never been a direct matchup between Fenerbahçe and Liverpool—so Wednesday’s Champions League match is a first. However, a look at both clubs’ previous international matchups against English and Turkish teams, respectively, is quite interesting: Fenerbahçe has won only one of its last five competitive matches against English teams, with one draw and three losses.
Liverpool, on the other hand, has a surprisingly poor record in away games in Turkey: In six Champions League away matches, they have yet to secure a single victory (one draw, five losses). From the Reds’ perspective, this streak is exactly what they hope to finally break on Wednesday night.
Fenerbahçe – Liverpool Prediction
The omens heading into this matchup could hardly be more different. While Fenerbahçe is under pressure after just one win in its last five competitive matches and a crushing 0–6 loss to Aston Villa in the Champions League, Liverpool is in impressive form on the international stage.
Three wins in their first three league matches, twelve goals scored, and—prior to the 0–1 loss to Arsenal—five consecutive wins in competitive play speak for themselves. Add to that the Reds’ offensive firepower and the Turks’ defensive vulnerability—they’ve already conceded nine goals in their first three Champions League matches.
For me, therefore, a dominant performance by the English side is the most likely outcome. I particularly like the Fenerbahçe vs. Liverpool bet on the double result HT2/FT2 at top odds of 2.11 at LetsBet because Liverpool, with its intensity, strong counter-pressing, and significantly higher international quality, can set the stage for victory even before halftime.
Those willing to take a bit more of a risk can alternatively consider the (-1.5) handicap in favor of the Reds. Over goals are also an interesting option. My main focus, however, is clearly on the away win—Liverpool simply has the more convincing case right now.
