Will FCH put up a fight one last time?

With an aggregate score of 6-1, SC Freiburg swept aside Celta Vigo in the Europa League quarterfinals—a club, mind you, that is in the running for a Champions League spot in La Liga. The Breisgau side now wants to carry this momentum into the Bundesliga, where 1. FC Heidenheim, the team languishing at the bottom of the table, is coming to the Europa-Park Stadium.

Although the Brenzstädter recently ended a 15-game winless streak in the league (five draws, ten losses) with a 3-1 victory over Union Berlin, they remain six points behind the relegation spot. If the bet on an away win for the Swabians comes through in Freiburg vs. Heidenheim, there could still be a glimmer of hope, especially since they face St. Pauli next week—the club currently occupying the relegation spot.

However, Freiburg’s away record clearly suggests that the prediction of a point for the Ostalb side in the Freiburg vs. Heidenheim match is unlikely to come true. On the road, FCH has earned just five points in 14 Bundesliga away games during the 2025/26 season and scored only eleven goals. Both figures are the worst in the league. Added to this is their defensive vulnerability. In none of their 29 league matches this season have the Red-Blues kept a clean sheet. Regardless of the match’s outcome, we therefore see the greatest value in betting that the Sport-Club will score over 1.5 goals.

Given that Freiburg have remained completely unbeaten in their three home games against FCH so far (two wins, one draw) and have conceded only one goal in total, there is also definite value to be found in Tip 1. Those looking for higher odds on Freiburg vs. Heidenheim can, meanwhile, consider the slightly riskier bet that the Black Forest side will score in both halves.

Freiburg vs. Heidenheim AI Prediction

Every now and then, the AI’s assessment and our human evaluation diverge significantly. That is not the case in this Baden-Württemberg derby. Not only does the AI back our main tip of over 1.5 goals for Freiburg—since the AI calculates an expected goals value of 2.14 for the Sport-Club—but the supercomputer also finds value in the three-way system.

Freiburg – Stats & Current Form

SC Freiburg still has several big matches ahead in April. Not only will the Sport-Club be battling it out next Thursday on the road at VfB Stuttgart for another shot at the DFB Cup final—which the Black Forest side narrowly lost in a penalty shootout against RB Leipzig in 2022—but they also still have a chance to reach the UEFA Europa League final against Sporting Braga.

In the Bundesliga, however, Julian Schuster’s team sits in eighth place and, already trailing sixth place by eleven points, can realistically only aim for seventh place, which would likely be enough to qualify for the Conference League. But that will require more consistency. Each of their last five Bundesliga wins has been immediately followed by a loss. Thus, following their recent 1-0 away win in Mainz, the prediction of a home loss for Freiburg against Heidenheim should actually come true.

Will Freiburg return to its former home form?

Fundamentally, however, the Sport-Club does possess a certain home strength, though this has faltered somewhat. After eleven consecutive unbeaten Bundesliga home games (seven wins, four draws), they have recently suffered two home defeats in a row. Now, for the first time since April 2018, there could even be three consecutive home losses in the top flight of German soccer.

But: The offense is very prolific overall. Not only did Lucas Höler score in two consecutive league games for the first time, but the Breisgau side has also scored in six consecutive competitive matches, netting at least two goals in five of those six games. Consequently, there is significant value in betting that SCF will score over 1.5 goals again.

Heidenheim – Statistics & Current Form

Statistically speaking, everything still points against 1. FC Heidenheim; never before in the three-point era has a six-point deficit to the relegation spot been overcome in the final five matchdays of the season. No team has ever avoided relegation after having fewer than 20 points on the board after 29 matchdays (currently 19).

Nevertheless, Frank Schmidt’s squad has found a second wind, remaining unbeaten in three consecutive matches (one win, two draws) and ending a 15-game winless streak in the league (five draws, ten losses) with a 3-1 victory over Union Berlin. However, if this home win in Breisgau isn’t followed up, it would likely be the end of the road.

Heidenheim is weak on the road and too vulnerable defensively

No wonder, as the team from Brenzstadt is the weakest away team in the Bundesliga.
The men from the Ostalb have picked up just five out of a possible 42 points on the road, where they’ve scored only eleven goals in 14 matches. While the recent 2-2 draw at Gladbach did provide a bit more encouragement, the offensive improvement—FCH has scored eight goals in their last three league games—still won’t help if the defense continues to concede so many goals.

In Europe’s top five leagues, Frank Schmidt’s side is the only club that has yet to keep a clean sheet in league play during the 2025/26 season. Moreover, their 64 goals conceded are surpassed only by VfL Wolfsburg (65).

Freiburg – Heidenheim Head-to-Head Record

Head-to-Head: 4 – 1 – 2

Only seven competitive matches have taken place between the two Baden-Württemberg clubs so far, and with four wins, SC Freiburg holds the edge in the head-to-head record. Although the Black Forest side lost 1–2 to 1. FC Heidenheim in the first leg at Schlossberg, Freiburg have remained unbeaten in three home matches against FCH (two wins, one draw) and have conceded just a single goal in total.

Freiburg – Heidenheim Prediction

According to the top bookmakers, the betting odds for Freiburg vs. Heidenheim clearly favor the Black Forest side, who have lost only three of their 14 Bundesliga home games (seven wins, four draws) and just recently dismantled Celta Vigo in the Europa League in spectacular fashion.

However, FCH has not lost any of its last three league matches (one win, two draws) and has clearly improved, especially on offense. The players from the Ostalb have scored eight goals in their last three league matches, although they are still waiting for their very first clean sheet of the 2025/26 season.

It is clear that only an away win will help the visitors preserve their already slim chance of staying in the league and possibly force a direct showdown with FC St. Pauli for the relegation spot. The Brenzstädter must therefore play boldly in Breisgau, which in turn makes the prediction that Freiburg will score at least two home goals against Heidenheim—regardless of the match’s outcome—a very strong favorite.
