The pressure on Man City is mounting

If Manchester City really does have to settle for second place at the end of this season, then last Monday’s 3-3 draw at Everton Football Club was certainly a major reason why. Despite clear dominance on the field, Guardiola’s side had to settle for a draw in Liverpool and have already squandered 17 (!) points after taking the lead over the course of the season, twelve of those alone in the calendar year 2026.

Because their direct rival for the Premier League title, Arsenal, won, the Citizens no longer have the title in their own hands. This makes it all the more important to keep the pressure on the Gunners. However, that can only be achieved with a successful Manchester City vs. Brentford bet on a win for the current second-place team.

The match against the London club, however, is unlikely to be a walk in the park, as “The Bees” have had a truly formidable season so far and have even climbed up to seventh place thanks to their 3-0 triumph over West Ham United last week. Assuming the Premier League gets six guaranteed Champions League spots, the surprise team still has a chance to get a taste of Champions League action next season. It’s a long way off, though, especially since their remaining schedule—featuring Man City, Crystal Palace, and Liverpool—looks pretty tough.

The fact that Coach Keith Andrews’s squad is in such a promising position at all is unexpected, given that the capital club has won only one of its last seven Premier League matches. However, the Red-White-Blacks managed to secure five draws against their opponents during that period. Nevertheless, the recent results don’t necessarily provide a basis for why one should bet on the massive underdog ahead of the Manchester City vs. Brentford match.

Instead, the lopsided Manchester City vs. Brentford odds align with my personal assessment. Given the Citizens’ home form—they’ve won twelve of their last 15 PL matches at home (with three draws)—I’m convinced that Guardiola’s squad will do their job and secure the must-win victory on Matchday 36 of the Premier League.

However, since the betting odds on the 1X2 market for the Manchester City vs. Brentford match are only around 1.40 for a home win, my preferred approach would be to bet on the double result HT1/FT1. One factor supporting this is the fact that City has conceded the first goal of a match only five times this season and was ahead at halftime in 22 of 34 games played.

Manchester City – Brentford Head-to-Head Record

There have been ten meetings so far this millennium. Manchester City leads the head-to-head record comfortably with seven wins, two draws, and just one loss. Nevertheless, the Bees have made life difficult for the overwhelming favorites time and again.

This is evident from the fact that in nine Premier League encounters, Manchester City have scored just 13 goals. The average of 1.4 goals per game is the lowest under Pep Guardiola against any other English Premier League side. City also won the first leg in London by a narrow 1-0 margin. The EFL Cup quarterfinal in December, however, ended with a 2-0 win for Erling Haaland and Co.

Manchester City – Brentford Prediction

Out of nowhere, Manchester City suffered a setback at Everton on Monday and thus had to cede the top spot in the race for the Premier League title back to Arsenal. The Sky Blues must now hope for a slip-up by the Gunners in the final matchdays.

Winning the title on their own is no longer possible. Since the current league leaders don’t play until Sunday’s London derby at West Ham United, Pep’s side aims to put pressure on their rivals with a home win against Brentford as early as Saturday night.

Although the visitors from the west of the capital have had a strong season so far and can still qualify for Europe, I’m clearly leaning toward the favorites. I therefore recommend the Manchester City vs. Brentford bet on the double result HT1/FT1. I’m betting five units on the 1.84 odds. Alternatively, you can also bet on both teams to score or select Jeremy Doku as a potential goalscorer. The Belgian winger is in strong form and has recently been involved in several goals, both as a scorer and a provider.
