Will the Reds finally get their first three points?
In my view, despite the Reds’ disappointing start to the season so far, the Ipswich vs. Liverpool pick clearly favors the visitors. Under new manager Andoni Iraola, Liverpool is still waiting for its first win after two matchdays and had to settle for 2-2 draws against both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle—so the pressure is high ahead of their away match at Portman Road.
Ipswich, on the other hand, has at least three points to its name and has looked quite dangerous, especially on offense. After investments of around 200 million euros, the club is determined to prevent its Premier League adventure from ending after just one season again—as happened during its last promotion two years ago.
Ahead of Ipswich’s match against Liverpool, a prediction of both teams scoring seems quite likely. The Reds have conceded two goals in each of their first two league games and are still waiting for their first clean sheet under Iraola, while Ipswich has scored at least once in all three competitive matches so far and even found the net twice against Manchester United.
That said, while Ipswich conceded an xGA of just under 5.00 at Old Trafford, they also generated around 2.00 xG themselves. Coach Gary O’Neil’s team is certainly capable of creating its own chances. However, if their approach remains this bold—and at times even reckless—in front of their home fans on Friday night, the Reds from Merseyside undoubtedly have the quality to capitalize on the spaces that open up.
Looking at the Ipswich vs. Liverpool odds, I’m ultimately focusing on an away win for the Reds. While Ipswich is unbeaten in its last 20 home games across all competitions at Portman Road—making it an impressive fortress—Liverpool brings a whole different level of individual quality and, with the signing of Bradley Barcola, even more offensive firepower.
Ipswich – Liverpool Head-to-Head Record
The head-to-head record has only a limited impact on the Ipswich vs. Liverpool betting odds, as the two clubs have faced each other just twice in the past 20 years. In the 2024–25 season, Liverpool first won 2–0 at Portman Road before the Reds also claimed a 4–1 victory in the return leg at Anfield Road. Ipswich has thus been waiting for another win against Liverpool since 2000, though their last home victory dates back even further. On February 1, 1986, the Tractor Boys won 2-1.

Ipswich – Liverpool Prediction
I definitely expect a few goals at Portman Road, as Ipswich has by no means held back offensively so far, despite their 2–5 loss at Manchester United. The Tractor Boys won their first home game against Sunderland 2–1 and have scored at least two goals in each of their three competitive matches across all competitions.
At the same time, their defense showed significant weaknesses in Manchester. While the hosts’ aggressive style can make for a spectacular match against higher-quality opponents, it also increases the likelihood that the points will ultimately go to the visiting team.
Despite the Tractor Boys’ home strength, I’m sticking with Liverpool as the winner. Although the Reds got off to a bumpy start with two 2-2 draws, their individual quality gives them far more options, and they now have even more offensive firepower with Bradley Barcola.
Liverpool is also unbeaten in its last 20 Premier League matches against promoted teams, winning 15 of those encounters. At odds of 1.57 on the Betano app, I’m therefore placing a seven-unit bet on the Reds to win in the Ipswich vs. Liverpool match. Those looking for a bit more risk can also consider betting on a Liverpool win combined with Over 3.5 goals at 3.20, while a bet on “Both Teams to Score” is also an interesting alternative.
