Brighton Aims to Pull Off an Upset at Old Trafford
This week sees the next round of matches in the second round of the EFL Cup, a tournament that languishes in the shadow of the FA Cup in terms of prestige. The winner of the competition earns a spot in the Conference League, which should at least serve as an incentive for the “smaller” clubs. Premier League teams also enter the competition in the Round of 32, and we’re taking a look at the Manchester United vs. Brighton match, where a bet on the hosts is rewarded by bookmaker Bwin with odds of 1.82.
A successful start to the season certainly looks different. After four matchdays, the “Red Devils” have only one win to their credit. However, they’ve already lost two matches. With four points to their credit, the 20-time champions currently sit in 13th place in the standings. They’re already eight points behind the top of the table, and their lead over the first relegation spot is just three points.
The “Seagulls,” on the other hand, have gotten off to a much better start. The Blue-and-Whites have secured two wins and a draw in their first four matches. Those seven points put them in fifth place in the standings, a position that would qualify them for the Europa League at the end of the season. But of course, we’re still a long way from that.
Manchester United – Brighton Head-to-Head Record
The two teams have faced each other 30 times so far. Overall, the “Red Devils” lead the series with 17 wins to 10 losses. They faced off three times last season. While Manchester United took all six points in the league, the “Seagulls” prevailed 2–1 at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. In three of the most recent four matches, the visiting team came out on top. United has won only one of its last five home games against Brighton. In the past five meetings, there have always been more than 2.5 goals scored.
Manchester United – Brighton Prediction
After finishing third last year, we expected Manchester United to be among the top contenders again this season. But the reality is currently quite different. Just one win in four matches isn’t enough to meet the standards set by head coach Michael Carrick’s squad. In last weekend’s city derby against the Citizens, a 70-minute numerical advantage wasn’t enough to secure any points. While things are going quite well on offense, conceding seven goals in four games isn’t exactly something to brag about. Only five teams have had to fish the ball out of their own net more often.
The Seagulls’ record so far is much more impressive. With 13 goals scored, the Blue and Whites boast the league’s most dangerous offense. And their defensive record is also impressive, even if the five goals conceded only place them in the middle of the pack in this ranking. Their only loss of the season came in a 3-4 defeat at Chelsea.
Somehow, the hosts haven’t really gotten into their stride yet. At this early stage of the season, this might be the “Seagulls’” big chance to pull off a minor upset. Especially since the “Red Devils’” defense is still lacking stability.
The Blue-and-Whites’ offense, in particular, has been on a scoring tear in recent weeks. They’ve scored at least three goals in four of their last five matches. That’s why we’re taking a small bet on the match between Manchester United and Brighton—at odds of 2.12—on the over 3.5 goals line.
