Will the Eagles be able to stabilize their defense?
After a three-week forced break due to Nations League matches, action finally resumes this weekend in the top international leagues. In the English Premier League, Crystal Palace faces Nottingham on Matchday 6, and a bet on the home team is rewarded with odds of 2.70 by bookmakers licensed in Germany. At least the bookmakers are expecting a closely contested match. Let’s see if our analysis leads us to the same conclusion.
The “Eagles” have had a slow start to the season and have managed just one win in their first five matches. With a total of four points, they currently sit in fifteenth place in the standings. Their lead over the first direct relegation spot is a mere single point. Therefore, the goal for the upcoming home game can really only be to secure three points and move ahead of their rival in the standings.
The “Garibaldi Reds” have recorded one win and two draws so far and are thus just ahead of their next opponent. The Red-Whites are in 13th place, and their connection to the international qualification spots is once again in danger of being severed early on.
Crystal Palace – Nottingham Head-to-Head Record
The two teams have faced each other in 28 Premier League matches so far. The Eagles have claimed five wins, while head coach Oliver Glasner’s squad has emerged victorious ten times. Across all competitions, the history books show 48 encounters with an overall record of 10-18-20.
In their last three matches, the two rivals couldn’t agree on a winner, with all three encounters ending in 1-1 draws. Eight of their last ten games have ended in a draw. In their most recent eight matches, fewer than 2.5 goals were scored between these teams.
Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Prediction
Given how last season went—both teams finished in the bottom third of the table—neither side can have been satisfied. But even this season, with new coaches on the sidelines, there hasn’t been any real improvement.
Crystal Palace has won only at Fulham but has already come away empty-handed three times. The defense, in particular, is a cause for concern for Coach Pierre Sage. The ball has been fished out of their own net eleven times. Only Chelsea has conceded more goals. The offense, with six wins, hasn’t exactly set the world on fire either.
With one more draw to their credit, things look only marginally better for the “Tricky Trees.” On the bright side, they’ve lost only one of their last four competitive matches. Their sole victory came against the “Villans” with a 2-1 score. Unlike their upcoming opponent, the defense has been fairly solid, conceding just five goals. However, their inability to convert chances is all the more glaring. The Red-Whites have scored only four goals so far—the third-worst tally in the league.
Both teams are currently far from being in good form. So, after the three-week break, it will naturally be exciting to see how the teams come out of it. The visitors have conceded more than one goal in only one of their five league games, and we expect Oliver Glasner’s squad to prioritize a solid defense on Sunday as well.
In the three-way market, we don’t see a clear favorite, a view supported by the even odds offered by the bookmakers. It’s very possible that the teams will cancel each other out and we won’t see a winner.
