Will the Vikings remain undefeated in Detroit?

Second-best offense (Lions) vs. best defense (Vikings), but also weakest defense (Lions) vs. very weak offense (Vikings). Our Lions vs. Vikings pick thrives on these contrasts, and the overarching question is: Offense or defense—which is more important?

“Offense wins games—defense wins championships” is a classic saying in U.S. sports, and it applies perfectly to this matchup. That’s because we view the Lions’ offensive firepower (30.7 points per game) as slightly more decisive than the Vikings’ defensive strength (only 12.3 points allowed).

Especially since the Lions’ own weak defense has recently shown more glimmers of hope than the Vikings’ offense. So, for Lions vs. Vikings, our prediction is a game in which Detroit will be the first team to score over 22 points against the Vikings—which should then be enough for the win.

However, the Lions aren’t among the 2027 Super Bowl favorites just yet, as their defense simply isn’t up to par. If, however, they make a trade for a linebacker or cornerback—as is currently being discussed—they’d be back among the top-5 favorites in record time.

The NFC North showdown of opposites kicks off Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in Detroit. The game will be broadcast live on SkySport 1 as a single-game broadcast as well as on the main Sky conference channel.

Since we believe the Lions will score over 22 points, this is also a direct starting point for additional bets (Over 22.5). However, since we don’t think the Vikings will score 20 points, there are other options here to take full advantage of the odds in the Lions vs. Vikings game, such as Under 46.5 total points or Under 19.5 Lions points.

Detroit Lions – Minnesota Vikings Head-to-Head Record

Last season, the Vikings were able to keep the Lions in check with their defense. However, we see Detroit as significantly improved compared to last year and more back to the level of previous years. Between 2022 and early 2025, the head-to-head record was 5–0 in favor of the Lions.

What’s not so easy to predict is the total points in this matchup. Two of the last three meetings were low-scoring games, but prior to that, the 50-point mark was regularly surpassed. Given the Vikings’ weak offense and strong defense, however, we’re leaning toward the under for Sunday.

Detroit Lions – Minnesota Vikings Pick

The Lions score nearly ten points (9.9) more on average than the Vikings—but they also give up 15.2 more points. However, with Brian Branch back on defense—which was immediately evident in the 20–17 win over Green Bay—we now see their defense as significantly better equipped.

That very game against the Packers is precisely why we consider a Detroit -3.5 spread bet our top betting option for Lions vs. Vikings. It even ranks ahead of the equally attractive “Under 46.5 total points” bet.

Fewer total points also mean fewer touchdowns—but at least the Lions should still be able to score 3–4. When it comes to the odds, we like a touchdown bet on Sam LaPorta best here. 3.30 for a player who has already found the end zone three times—we’ll gladly take that.
