Who will create enough scoring chances?

As has so often been the case in recent years, the center-forward position is a point of concern for the reigning English champions—and it’s a key factor in this Liverpool vs. Arsenal pick as well. Midweek, the Gunners were knocked out of the EFL Cup in a complete surprise by fourth-division side Fleetwood Town.

Viktor Gyökeres’s goal ended a streak of nine consecutive competitive matches in which neither the Swede nor Kai Haverts had scored. It remains to be seen who will take the top spot in the visitors’ lineup in this Liverpool vs. Arsenal preview.

But it seems the Spanish head coach continues to find solutions for the offense. So far, the visitors have lost only one of eight Premier League matches (0–3 vs. Brighton). The defending champions won all seven of their remaining league games, which has likely influenced the Liverpool vs. Arsenal betting odds offered by the top bookmakers. However, the foundation remains the defensive structure.

Both offenses face an extreme challenge. Arsenal has allowed the fewest shots on goal in the league (24). Liverpool is performing at a similarly high level, having allowed only one more shot on Alisson’s goal (25).

Liverpool vs. Arsenal Head-to-Head Record

Last season, Liverpool was the only team in the English top flight to keep Arsenal from scoring in both head-to-head matches (0–0, 1–0). At home, thanks to a phenomenal free-kick goal by Dominik Szoboszlai, they secured their first Premier League win after eight consecutive winless head-to-head matches.

Anfield is a particularly challenging venue for Arsenal anyway. The Gunners have gone winless in their last 13 Premier League away matches at the Reds’ home ground (5 draws, 8 losses). If the defending champions remain winless there this coming weekend, a new historic record will be set in the history books.

Liverpool – Arsenal Prediction

Only eight other clubs have taken fewer shots than last year’s Premier League champion from London (107) in the current Premier League season. The average quality of their scoring chances is high (0.13 xG per shot), but at times they lack the volume of chances created.

Defensively, however, Arsenal—as in previous years—allows almost nothing. Five clean sheets after eight matchdays is a tied-for-best record. Interestingly, Liverpool also ranks quite high in this category with four league games without conceding a goal.

Just in time for the clash with the reigning champions, the Reds have recently found their rhythm under Andoni Iraola. Liverpool has secured three wins in their last four Premier League matchdays. From a personal standpoint, Iraola is also on a remarkable run. In the calendar year 2026, the 44-year-old has suffered only two Premier League losses in 27 matches as a coach.
