Will the Swiss continue their winning streak?

A neighborhood showdown for the top of the standings – but Germany isn’t in the mix. Who would have thought that in our Austria vs. Switzerland tip, the top spots in the standings would be up for grabs and that an early quarterfinal qualification for the Alpine nations might even be possible.

Does that mean we’re in for a balanced, evenly matched game? Probably not, because the Swiss team has now warmed up at the home World Cup and is sweeping aside their opponents like Jannik Sinner swept aside Zverev or FC Bayern swept through the Bundesliga.

The 6-1 win over Germany was their latest feat, but it won’t be the last word at this World Cup, where some bookmakers now even consider them the top contender to challenge Canada—and rightly so. An average of 4.3 goals per game is a strong statement.

Austria also averages 4.0 goals, but their opponents—Hungary, Great Britain, and Latvia—were the teams ranked lowest in the group prior to the World Cup. That’s why our prediction for Austria vs. Switzerland is a clear victory for the Swiss, who could jump back to first place in the group.

However, since the bookmakers are setting the handicap as high as -3 to -3.5 goals here, other betting options are coming into play. Bets on over goals, for example, since both teams have been impressive offensively so far (averaging 4.3 and 4.0 goals).

Austria – Switzerland Head-to-Head Record

Switzerland has won all of the last five matchups. The last time Team Austria beat the Swiss was in 2015 at the World Championship, winning 5-4 in a shootout. Switzerland also won two of the last three matchups by a margin of at least four goals.

That sounds clear-cut, and it could very well be the case again on Wednesday at 4:20 PM in Zurich. A victory by a margin of 3–4 goals is a likely outcome here, though the question, of course, is how hard the home team will keep pushing if the game is already decided a few minutes before the end.

So while the odds on Switzerland with a handicap are still viable for Austria vs. Switzerland, we recommend combinations with over bets.

Austria – Switzerland Tip

Switzerland is considered a dark horse for this year’s World Championship, though it’s not really a secret anymore. With Josi, Hischier, and Meier, they have some of the biggest stars in the NHL on their team, and Austria—without a single NHL player—simply can’t keep up.

Therefore, for Austria vs. Switzerland, our recommendation is a bet on Switzerland—but given the Austria vs. Switzerland betting odds, we have to combine this with over bets.

An Over 5.5 total goals bet is also highly recommended in this context.

We also have a goal bet as an alternative. This time, we’re going with a goal by Sven Andrighetto, who currently leads both the goalscoring chart (3 goals) and the scoring chart (5 points).
