Will the Canadians live up to their role as favorites?

Our Canada vs. Finland tip features an absolute classic on the international stage. While the Finns were the Canadians’ nemesis for several years, the Maple Leafs have since won four of the last five matchups.

They are therefore once again considered the slight favorites this Saturday at the 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland, having yet to lose a game in this tournament. They also demonstrated their strong form in their 4-0 victory over the USA in the quarterfinals. Veteran star Crosby and newcomer Celebrini were the two standout players in their lineup.

Backed by Brown, Bouchard, Tavares, and O’Reilly—we can’t imagine them being stopped before the final, so our prediction for Canada vs. Finland is a Maple Leafs victory in regulation time.

If we’re going for a 3-way bet, there are actually very attractive odds of around 1.91 on Team Canada. Since the bookmakers are expecting a low-scoring game, however, over bets are also worth considering. After all, both teams are averaging well over four goals per game at this World Cup (4.6 and 4.4).

Canada – Finland Head-to-Head Record

Canada has won four of the last five matchups – though the most important one, at the 2025 World Championship, went to Finland 2-1 in a shootout. Should this team worry Canada? Probably not, as they also lost their most recent matchups against the U.S., though they did beat them on Thursday.

Their roster is simply the strongest and most balanced in this World Championship, and only Switzerland, with home-ice advantage, should pose a real threat. Therefore, in the Canada vs. Switzerland matchup, the betting odds clearly favor the Canadians.

Canada – Finland Tip

Team Canada leads the Finns in both shooting efficiency and penalty killing. However, the Finns have the better power play (32% success rate vs. 22.22%). We see this as the Scandinavians’ only chance to keep the game close. If they manage to force overtime, anything is possible, just as it was in 2025.

We don’t really expect that to happen, though, as the Finns already showed their vulnerability against fast forwards in their 2-4 loss to Switzerland. So for Canada vs. Finland, a bet on Team Canada is our clear recommendation.

When it comes to goal bets, we’ve taken a close look at the odds for Canada vs. Switzerland and discovered a strong value bet. For goal bets on Macklin Celebrini, there are odds of up to 2.80, which represents excellent value given his six goals in eight games so far.
