Will Germany finally start its comeback?

“It’s now or never” for the DEB team after another loss to the USA. This makes our Germany vs. Hungary tip for Friday’s game a key match of this 2026 World Championship in Switzerland. If Germany loses, they can definitely kiss the quarterfinals goodbye.

Then, relegation would suddenly even be a realistic scenario after just one point from four games so far—the Hungarians have already managed to collect three. It’s all the more surprising that Germany is now entering the match as the favorite with odds of up to 3.5.

In our view, that’s a bit too much, because given their current offensive struggles and defensive vulnerabilities (3.75 goals conceded on average), we don’t expect an easy 5-0 win or anything like that. Rather, the German team will have to push itself to the limit in this match as well to secure a reasonably comfortable victory.

So for Germany vs. Hungary, our prediction is that Coach Kreis’s team will ultimately win the match, but it won’t be quite as decisive as many experts expect. A 4-2 result seems much more likely to us than a 6-0 one.

When it comes to betting, we once again have to choose between a high handicap (3–3.5 in favor of Germany) or alternatives like over goals. Since Hungary has also scored in every game so far (averaging 2.7 goals per game), over 5.5 total goals is definitely worth considering here.

Germany – Hungary Head-to-Head Record

These two nations have faced each other directly in international games only five times in the last 20 years, and Germany won all five matches. This isn’t surprising, as Hungary was long considered a developing nation when it comes to ice hockey.

However, that has changed somewhat in recent years. Otherwise, the Hungarians wouldn’t have been able to keep up so well against Finland (1-4) or Austria (2-4). In the preseason, they even lost “only” 1-3 to the absolute top favorites from Canada.

Thus, in the Germany vs. Hungary match, the odds on Hungary +3 are, in our view, slightly more favorable than those on the DEB team with the negative handicap. The DEB team hasn’t won by more than three goals in twelve games.

Germany – Hungary Tip

Is the DEB team finally getting into gear, or is their form still dragging on like chewing gum? That’s arguably the big question ahead of this matchup against the widely underestimated Hungarians. Despite their clear 5-0 win over Great Britain, no one expects them to stand a chance against the DEB team.

That’s where the betting opportunity lies, making a bet on Hungary +3 our preferred choice for Germany vs. Hungary. For one thing, Germany hasn’t won by such a large margin in a long time, and for another, this World Championship shows that there are no longer any true long shots.

However, since we also expect the DEB team to ultimately scrape out a win, we can take advantage of the betting odds for a combination bet on Germany vs. Hungary. Germany + Over 5.5 total points is a good alternative here.
