Will the Swiss cap off their home World Championship with a gold medal?

The grand final is coming up at the 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland, and given everything that’s happened so far, the hosts are naturally featured in our Switzerland vs. Finland tip. Not only that, but they’re even considered the slight favorites to win their very first World Championship title.

The fans will be there from the start, and it will be crucial how well the Swiss manage to keep their nerves in check. It has happened more than once in various sports that the hosts were unable to finish the fairy tale (think of the 2006 “Summer Fairy Tale” in soccer or the 2010 “Winter Fairy Tale”).

Nevertheless, we consider Switzerland’s chances to be extremely good. Especially since they’ve now had several more hours to recover since Saturday. Their match ended around 5:30 p.m., while the Finns’ didn’t finish until a full five hours later. Whether it’s 17 or 22 hours of rest, it can make a difference after such a long World Cup.

The bookmakers see this as a nearly 50-50 matchup. That’s understandable, given that the two teams’ preliminary round match was decided only shortly before the end and the statistics were completely even there as well.

However, since we give the Swiss a slight edge, the betting odds for Switzerland vs. Finland definitely favor the Swiss. In the first matchup in the preliminary round, six goals were scored, and we expect Over 4.5 again for the final—another betting option.

Switzerland – Finland Head-to-Head Record

Three of the past five matches went to the Scandinavians, though Switzerland emerged victorious in the last two encounters – the most recent just a week ago at this very World Cup (4-2).

So the latest form also favors the Swiss, who really found their stride against Norway (6-0). However, they shouldn’t underestimate the Finns. The Canadians did just that after taking the lead and paid the price within just twelve minutes (going from 2-1 to 2-4).

However, if the Swiss stay focused, the odds for a “home win” in Switzerland vs. Finland are too good to pass up. For those betting on the momentum, even handicap bets on Switzerland -1.5 are still viable.

Switzerland – Finland Tip

There are tournaments where a home team surprisingly makes it to the final. In this one, however, the Swiss have deserved their place from start to finish and were, in part, expected to be here. That’s why a title now wouldn’t be as surprising as it would have been during the DEB team’s 2010 winter fairy tale.

In that sense, betting on Switzerland in the Switzerland vs. Finland match isn’t a reckless gamble, but a well-considered and highly viable bet. Even when combined with Over 4.5 total goals, this bet is still viable at extremely good odds.

We’ve also identified a goal bet on Nico Hischier as an excellent alternative. He already has six goals in the tournament and was successful again in the semifinal against Norway.
