Will Germany remain winless?
Will the DEB team’s nightmare World Championship continue, or will they finally put a stop to their losing streak? After three losses in three games, qualifying for the quarterfinals is looking increasingly unlikely. That makes our USA vs. Germany prediction a crucial turning point.
But we don’t expect this to be a turning point. The team’s performances so far have been too lackluster, especially on offense. On top of that, Germany is now 0-for-12 in power-play attempts—extremely depressing.
But Team USA is also under a bit of pressure after two losses in three games. However, like Germany, the US team has faced the two big favorites from World Championship Group A: Switzerland and Finland. And they actually looked quite strong for long stretches, at least against Switzerland.
The last head-to-head between the two teams took place right before the World Championship, when the USA defeated Germany 5-3. We expect a similar result on Wednesday, which makes a prediction in favor of Team USA a logical choice for USA vs. Germany.
In addition to bets on Team USA (with a handicap of up to -2.5), over goals are also a viable option. In the USA’s last two games, an average of 7.0 goals were scored—the same number as in Germany’s loss to Switzerland.
USA – Germany Head-to-Head Record
The head-to-head record in this matchup speaks for itself: Team USA has won nine of the last ten meetings, including all five of the most recent ones. We would be very surprised if the German team managed to turn things around now, of all times, against the Americans.
After years of success, quarterfinal appearances, and upsets, the DEB team’s primary goal this year is simply to avoid relegation (against Hungary and Great Britain, that is). Against the USA, scoring just two goals of their own would be a first step in the right direction.
USA – Germany Prediction
This isn’t Germany’s tournament. German fans should be honest enough to admit that by now, and bookmakers are increasingly recognizing this too, which is why they’re lowering the odds on Germany’s opponent once again for the USA vs. Germany match.
While this makes handicap betting a bit trickier, a bet on USA -2.0 is still our preferred option for USA vs. Germany. After all, the US team should be ahead by at least this two-goal margin by the end.
Alternatively, however, we also recommend over bets and a goal bet on Issac Howard. The US player has already scored two goals and is still offered at odds of up to 3.60 for a goal—we can take advantage of that with our picks as well.
