Will the newly crowned champions stumble in the Basque Country?

Thanks to their 2-0 home win in the Clásico against Real Madrid, FC Barcelona successfully defended their La Liga title for the first time since 2019. It was their eleventh consecutive victory, with the Blaugrana also winning their 18th home game of the 2025/26 season.

However, right after the long championship celebration in Catalonia, Barça now faces a midweek fixture. If the hangover hasn’t completely worn off by Wednesday night’s away match in the Basque Country, a bet on the Albiazules earning a point against Barcelona could very well pay off.

The Babazorros have recently thrown themselves fully into the relegation battle, losing only two of their last eight league games (two wins, four draws). If the wily coach Quique Flores manages to field a team that plays with knives between their teeth, they could certainly pull off a result against an opponent who has completely lost all remaining tension following the Clásico.

However, we certainly don’t expect a goal fest. The safest bet therefore seems to be the Alavés vs. Barcelona prediction of under 3.5 goals in the match, which would also cover any 1-0 or 2-0 away wins by the Catalans.

But if Barça were vulnerable in La Liga in 2025/26, it was on the road. All five points dropped (one draw, four losses) came away from home, where the Blaugrana also conceded 22 of their 31 goals.

Those not afraid to take a risk can also find odds of 3.15 for a home win by the Babazorros when Alaves face Barcelona—a scenario that, given the championship celebrations at Barça, is more realistic than ever before.

Alaves – Barcelona Head-to-Head Record

Head-to-Head: 7 – 7 – 36

A total of 50 competitive matches have been played between the two teams so far, and with 36 wins, FC Barcelona clearly leads the head-to-head record. The Blaugrana are currently unbeaten in their last 17 competitive matches against Deportivo Alaves (15 wins, two draws) and have won all of their last six encounters. In the first leg, they secured a commanding 3-1 home victory in Catalonia.

Alaves – Barcelona Tip

The fact that betting odds for Alaves vs. Barcelona are around 2.25 for a Catalan away win shows that even the top bookmakers expect some of the pressure to ease off Barça now that they’ve secured the league title in the Clásico.

This presents a great opportunity for the Basques to score a “big point” in their relegation battle against the league leaders of all teams, especially since the Babazorros have fully embraced that relegation fight and have suffered only two losses in their last eight competitive matches (two wins, four draws).

Nevertheless, on paper, there is of course a world of difference between the two clubs, which is why we’re going with under 3.5 goals for Alavés vs. Barcelona, a bet that would also cover a 1-0, 2-0, or even 2-1 away win for the Blaugrana. After all, Barça hasn’t lost any of their last 17 competitive matches against the Albiazules (15 wins, two draws). Betano is offering odds of 1.70 for under 3.5 goals, which we’re betting on with five out of ten units.
