No wonder—once again, Coach Hansi Flick has a star-studded squad at his disposal. While Robert Lewandowski has moved on from the offense, the Pole was already past his prime anyway and is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement in the MLS. The departure of Ferran Torres is a much bigger blow—the Spanish World Cup hero is now playing for PSG.

For now, however, Raphinha is filling the gap perfectly. After two seasons in La Liga with at least 13 goals each, he’s already well on track to match that output, having scored six goals in his first four matches in Spain’s top flight. Given his very strong start to the season, we’re predicting he’ll celebrate his next personal goal in the match between Barcelona and Feyenoord Rotterdam.

Their home dominance was also evident in the group stage of the Champions League: Although they lost their first home game against PSG—who went on to win the Champions League—they won the other three home games against teams comparable to Feyenoord, such as Olympiacos and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Will Barca strike again in both halves?

The offense performed exceptionally well here—and not just in front of their home crowd—which meant that, by the end of the season, Barca boasted the second-best offense behind Arsenal and tied with Bayern. Given this, the betting odds for a home win in both halves of the match between Barcelona and Feyenoord Rotterdam are also worth considering.

This is supported by statistics from last season’s La Liga, when Barcelona scored before and after halftime in 74 percent of its home games and in 50 percent of its Champions League home games. Just how strong the offense was back then is also evident from the fact that they scored four or more goals in half of their six Champions League home games, completely dismantling the “Magpies” 7–2 and Piraeus 6–1, among others.

The Catalans’ defense has room for improvement

At the same time, however, the defense had room for improvement. In the six home games of the previous season, the home team failed to keep a clean sheet in every single one! Although Rodri—the best player from the last World Cup—was signed in the summer to play defensive midfield, the defense still conceded two goals in the last league home game against Vallecano.

Against this backdrop, the odds for both teams to score and for more than three goals to be scored in the match between Barcelona and Feyenoord Rotterdam also look promising.

Feyenoord Rotterdam – Statistics & Current Form

Last season, Rotterdam missed out on a spot in the Champions League after suffering a 2-5 thrashing in the away leg of the qualifying playoffs against Fenerbahçe. Subsequently, Rotterdam also had a deeply disappointing group stage in the Europa League, with six losses in eight matches (2-0-6).

In three of their last four Eredivisie matches, Rotterdam conceded two goals—and that was against comparatively weak opponents like ADO Den Haag and Cambuur-Leeuwarden. This can also be attributed to a tight roster situation caused by the injury-related absences of several defensive players, including Bart Nieuwkoop, Gijs Smal, Thomas Beelen, and Jordan Bos.

Feyenoord must do without top goal-scorer Ueda

In contrast, however, the offense is firing on all cylinders: Feyenoord has found the back of the net in all five of its Eredivisie league matches, averaging 2.6 goals per game. However, just a few days ago—shortly before the end of the transfer window—the Dutch side lost another particularly important striker.

We’re talking about the Japanese player Ayase Ueda, who will now be hunting for goals with Lille in Ligue 1. He scored right away on his debut with the “Dogs,” and prior to that, he had netted three goals for Feyenoord in four league matches.

Just how big a void his departure leaves is evident from the fact that Ueda scored 25 league goals last season—a tally that earned him the top scorer title in the Dutch top flight! Furthermore, Sem Steijn—the 2024–25 Eredivisie top scorer—is currently seeing only limited playing time, as he is still being gradually reintegrated into the team following a long injury layoff.

Zechiel is expected to lead the charge in Rotterdam’s offense

Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who—ironically—won the Champions League as a player with Barcelona in 2006, can at least count on Gjivai Zechiel as a reliable goal-scorer. The Dutchman has scored four goals in the first five rounds of the Eredivisie and, following Ueda’s departure, can now be described as the most prolific scorer on the 1970 European Cup-winning team. An example of this assessment was last weekend’s warm-up match against Nijmegen, which Feyenoord won 3–1, with Zechiel contributing to all three goals (1 goal & 2 assists).

Barcelona – Feyenoord Rotterdam Head-to-Head Record

The two clubs last faced each other in 1974. In the round of 16 of the European Cup—which Bayern Munich went on to win that season—Rotterdam and Barcelona played to a scoreless draw at “De Kuip,” and in the second leg, the Catalans secured a decisive 3-0 home victory. For the upcoming match between Barcelona and Feyenoord Rotterdam, the odds also point unequivocally toward a home win.

The Dutch side would be hopelessly outmatched in terms of personnel anyway, but the gap in class has widened even further in recent days following the departure of their best striker, Ayase Ueda.
