Flawless BVB Takes on In-Form Bremen!

A classic matchup is on the schedule to kick off Matchday 5 of the Bundesliga. My Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen prediction focuses on the clash between the undefeated league leader and the visitors from the Weser, who have recently found their footing.

The match kicks off on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 8:30 p.m. at Signal Iduna Park. After the international break, BVB aims to maintain its perfect record and defend its lead at the top of the table. For my Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen prediction, I’m taking a close look at both teams’ current form, their head-to-head record, and the key statistics.

While Borussia has gotten off to a blistering start with four wins in four games, Werder has bounced back from an opening-round loss and picked up seven points from its last three matches. Nevertheless, the favorite is clear, as reflected in the bookmakers’ odds.

Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen AI Prediction

The Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen AI prediction sees the hosts as overwhelming favorites. The calculated probability of a BVB home win stands at an impressive 69.6%.

A draw is estimated at 16.4%, while an away win for Bremen is considered very unlikely at just 14.1%. These figures are based on a comprehensive analysis of over 50,000 games. Expected Goals (xG) also underscore the Black-and-Yellows’ dominance. The AI predicts an xG value of 2.47 for Dortmund, which is the highest home value of the entire Matchday 5. For Werder Bremen, on the other hand, a value of only 1.02 is expected.

The algorithm therefore anticipates that Dortmund will create numerous high-quality scoring opportunities. The expected total goals for the match stand at 3.49, suggesting a high-scoring game in which the goals are likely to be scored predominantly by the home team.

Dortmund – Statistics & Current Form

The Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen odds speak for themselves, and for good reason. Coach Niko Kovac’s team is the only one in the league yet to drop a point and sits atop the standings with a perfect 12 points.

Their defensive stability is particularly impressive. Having conceded only two goals, BVB shares the title of the Bundesliga’s best defense with Bayern Munich. In their two home games so far at Signal Iduna Park, they haven’t even conceded a single goal.

BVB is an absolute powerhouse at home. With the exception of a loss to Leverkusen in April of this year, Dortmund has won six of its last seven league home games. This season, they have confidently defeated Hamburger SV (2–0) and Paderborn (3–0). Despite some personnel absences—such as new signing Giannis Konstantelias and defenders Niko Schlotterbeck and Julian Ryerson—the team is performing with great solidity.

BVB steps it up after halftime

An interesting statistic is the distribution of goals. Borussia has scored seven of its nine goals this season in the second half. This demonstrates patience, but also excellent physical conditioning, which allows the team to step up its game in the decisive phase of a match.

Last season, Dortmund averaged 2.35 goals per home game and scored at least once in 94% of all matches in front of their home crowd. Everything points to them continuing this streak against Bremen as well.

Werder Bremen – Statistics & Current Form

Although the Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen betting odds have the visitors as clear underdogs, the team from the Weser is traveling with renewed confidence. After an opening-day loss in Freiburg, Werder remained unbeaten for three straight games, picking up seven points in the process.

In particular, their most recent 3-2 home win against Augsburg—in which they came back from a 0-2 deficit—has boosted morale. On offense, the Green-Whites can count on Niclas Füllkrug, who has scored in each of the last three league games.

However, Bremen also has personnel concerns. Jens Stage, the most prolific midfielder of the past two years, is sidelined due to injury. His absence is a major blow and weakens an offense that isn’t particularly potent to begin with. Furthermore, Bremen tends to struggle to get into games: In three of their four league matches this season, they conceded the first goal.

Werder Struggles on the Road

Bremen’s biggest weakness, however, is their chronic struggles on the road. Last season, they were already among the three worst road teams in the league. This trend has continued into the new season.

They’ve picked up just one point from their first two away games. The 1–4 thrashing in Freiburg to start the season showed that their defense is vulnerable against strong opponents. A similar scenario could now loom for them at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen Head-to-Head Record

The historical record clearly favors Borussia. BVB is unbeaten in its last seven Bundesliga matches against Werder, winning five of them. Last season, Dortmund even won both head-to-head matches without conceding a single goal. At home, they secured a decisive 3-0 victory, and in Bremen, they won 2-0.

Werder has also mostly come up short in recent away games in Dortmund. They’ve lost three of their last five matches at Signal Iduna Park. It’s worth noting that the matches in Dortmund have often been high-scoring.

In nine of BVB’s last eleven home games against Werder, not only were there more than 2.5 goals, but both teams also scored. However, given Dortmund’s current defensive strength, this trend could change this time around.

Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen Prediction

All signs point to a home win for BVB. Their flawless season record, extreme home dominance, and solid defense are compelling arguments.

In contrast, Bremen—while having picked up points recently—struggles mightily on the road and was already crushed by Freiburg. Dortmund’s dominance is also supported by AI prediction and the head-to-head statistics.

My Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen pick therefore points to a comfortable victory for the hosts. The straight win odds, at around 1.36, are not very attractive. I’m therefore opting for the “Dortmund -1 Handicap” (Asian) bet.

This means BVB must win by at least two goals for the bet to be successful. Two of their wins this season—both at home—came by that margin. Given Bremen’s struggles on the road and Dortmund’s dominance at home, I consider this scenario very likely. If they win by just one goal, you’d get your stake back.
