Will TSG squander its last hope of qualifying for the Champions League?
At Borussia Dortmund, almost everything is currently revolving around Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract extension, which was somehow forced by both sides. Although the German international’s contract now runs until 2031, “Schlotti” managed to have various clauses included that allow him to leave the club early with little trouble. That’s not exactly a declaration of love!
The fans also responded to the controversial contract extension by booing their captain. To make matters worse, last week saw a 0-1 home loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, which could now be an early indication in my Hoffenheim vs. Dortmund prediction that the designated runners-up are looking to bounce back.
The Black and Yellows have been extremely consistent in recent weeks and months, especially on the road. Borussia remained undefeated in ten consecutive Bundesliga away games. The fact that this streak is now coming to an end in Sinsheim of all places does not align with my Hoffenheim vs. BVB prediction for Saturday afternoon.
After all, TSG has recently gone winless in four consecutive Bundesliga matches, suffered several surprising setbacks, and slipped to sixth place in the standings. They are now five points behind the top four. Coach Christian Ilzer’s team therefore cannot afford another slip-up.
Although the potent attacking lines of both clubs suggest that the odds for a high-scoring match between Hoffenheim and BVB are worth considering, there are also other statistical indicators that point to the possibility of a low-scoring affair at the PreZero Arena. The Kraichgauers, in particular, have recently struggled to create and convert scoring opportunities.
Given this context and BVB’s continued defensive stability, I find the odds for a maximum of three goals in the match to be set significantly too high. At Tipico, you get a solid 1.67 for Under 3.5.
Hoffenheim vs. Dortmund AI Prediction
Based on its xG predictions, the AI agrees with my assessment that there will be no more than three goals. Furthermore, the xG values of 1.51 for TSG and 1.61 for BVB suggest that Borussia—according to the AI—enters the match as the favorite. The probability of a win is estimated at 41.6%, which should result in fair odds of 2.39. However, at Bet365, you can even get 2.50 on a Black-and-Yellow away win, so the away victory offers the most attractive value in the Hoffenheim vs. BVB AI prediction.
Hoffenheim – Statistics & Current Form
Before the season started, every TSG fan would surely have jumped at the chance if told that their favorite club would be in sixth place with five matchdays remaining and would almost certainly return to the international stage in 2026/27. The fact that the mood in the Kraichgau region is currently somewhat subdued stems from the fact that Ilzer’s team was actually on course for the Champions League for a long time, but has fallen off that path in recent weeks through its own fault.
TSG Hoffenheim has recently suffered a noticeable slump
For the first time this Bundesliga season, the Sinsheim-based team has gone four games in a row without a win (0-2-2). In fact, they have managed just a single win in their last seven league matches (1-3-3). Only Wolfsburg, second-to-last in the standings, has earned fewer points over the past seven matchdays than the sixth-place team, which has also scored more than one goal in just two of its last six matches.
Also interesting: In five of the last six home games involving TSG, a bet on under 3.5 goals would have paid off. Spectators in Sinsheim have seen no more than three goals in four consecutive matches. Only Bayern, Dortmund, Stuttgart, and Leverkusen have conceded fewer goals at home than Ilzer’s squad.
Consequently, there are strong arguments for predicting a maximum of three goals after 90 minutes in the Hoffenheim vs. Dortmund match. Alternatively, one could bet that the Blue-Whites will once again fail to score twice.

Dortmund – Stats & Current Form
For Borussia Dortmund, the season is essentially over. The Black and Yellows were eliminated from both the Cup and the Champions League long ago, and their second-place finish in the Bundesliga is firmly cemented. No hope of climbing higher and no fear of falling lower. Although the results—with the exception of the 0-1 loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen—remained solid even after the decisive defeat in the top-of-the-table clash at home against Bayern, a certain loss of intensity and, consequently, a drop in performance cannot be denied. Even in Stuttgart, BVB didn’t create much but still won 2-0 thanks to impressive efficiency. However, Borussia hasn’t played with any real flair for several months now.
Dortmund wants to continue focusing on Kovac’s strengths
Nevertheless, I’m not averse to betting that they’ll secure another victory this Saturday afternoon during the 30th matchday of the Bundesliga. Currently, ahead of the Dortmund vs. Hoffenheim match, the best odds for an away win are 2.50 on the Bet365 app.
Furthermore, the Westphalians also provide good reasons to favor an under bet. In 14 away games, for example, Kovac’s side has conceded only 15 goals—the second-best record behind Bayern. The designated runners-up have not lost any of their last ten Bundesliga away games (6-4-0). Although Dortmund scored at least two goals in every away game in the German top flight during the 2026 calendar year, the under 3.5 would have come in four out of six cases. Over the entire season, as many as 79% of all BVB away games in the Bundesliga ended with three goals or fewer scored.

Hoffenheim – BVB Head-to-Head Record
TSG Hoffenheim is one of Borussia Dortmund’s favorite opponents in the Bundesliga. TSG has won only one of the past eleven meetings. Eight of the remaining ten matches were lost (two draws). At home, the Kraichgauers have recently lost five consecutive matches against BVB. The Blue-Whites have not suffered such a long losing streak against any other club.
The first leg ended 2-0 in favor of the Black-Yellows. Incidentally, Hoffenheim last beat Borussia at home in 2019. The scorers back then were Sargis Adamyan and the ever-present Andrej Kramaric, whose declining form is emblematic of the Sinsheim side’s ongoing downward trend.
Hoffenheim – BVB Prediction
Currently in sixth place, TSG Hoffenheim trails the Champions League spots by five points. With five games remaining and a direct showdown against VfB Stuttgart, the dream of the Champions League is therefore not yet over.
However, a significant improvement in performance is needed compared to recent weeks, during which the Kraichgauers have, to some extent, paid the price for their high-intensity style of play. Another setback now looms at home against Borussia Dortmund. At least, that’s what the Hoffenheim vs. Dortmund betting odds suggest.
BVB has gone ten away games without a win, still boasts one of the best defenses in the league, but nevertheless faces the reality that the remaining five matchdays are essentially just for show.
This combination naturally makes it difficult to make reliable predictions. In my opinion, the most sensible approach is therefore to bet on Under 3.5 between Hoffenheim and BVB.
