Will the Azzurri stay on course for the Champions League?

There are still nine points up for grabs in Serie A, meaning a slump by the Partenopei in the home stretch could come back to haunt them. With a six-point lead over fifth place, the Partenopei can likely start planning for the Champions League again soon—especially if the tip for a home win by the Azzurri in the Napoli vs. Bologna match comes through.

This would mean that what started as a complicated season for last year’s champions—who, by the way, are now hosting last year’s Coppa Italia winners at the foot of Vesuvius—would end on a positive note after all.

The situation is quite different for the Rossoblu, who, following their triumph in the Coppa Italia, currently sit in a sobering ninth place in the table and also suffered a crushing defeat to Aston Villa in the Europa League quarterfinals with an aggregate score of 1-7. Recently, the momentum has clearly run out. In four consecutive competitive matches, Bologna FC not only failed to win (one draw, three losses) but also failed to score a single goal. Against this backdrop, a home win for the Partenopei seems the logical choice, as they have picked up 20 out of a possible 27 points from their last nine league games and head into this Monday night match in much stronger form.

Both teams have focused on defense, which has often come at the expense of offensive firepower. Accordingly, we don’t expect a goal fest at the foot of Vesuvius, which is why results like 0-0 or 1-1 could also be secured by playing the Match Combo of Double Chance 1X with under 3.5 goals.

Napoli – Bologna Head-to-Head Record

Head-to-Head: 62 – 43 – 49

A total of 154 competitive matches have taken place between the two clubs so far, and with 62 wins, SSC Napoli leads the head-to-head record.

The Partenopei just won the Supercoppa Italiana 2-0 against Bologna FC at the end of 2025, though Bologna has been significantly more resilient in Serie A recently. In league play, the Rossoblu have lost only one of their last six matches against the team from Campania (two wins, three draws).

Napoli – Bologna Prediction

While the Partenopei are on course for the runner-up spot and could, in theory, secure early qualification for the Champions League group stage as early as this matchday, the Veltri (meaning “the Greyhounds”) have clearly run out of steam recently. The Emilian side have gone four consecutive competitive matches without a goal or a win (one draw, three losses) and, sitting in ninth place with three matchdays remaining, find themselves in no man’s land in the standings. Their elimination in the Europa League quarterfinals against Aston Villa thus marked the Rossoblu’s final appearances on the international stage for the time being.

Although the team from Campania has won only one of its last six Serie A matches against the Veltri (three draws, two losses), our prediction for Napoli vs. Bologna clearly favors a home win for the Azzurri, who are currently in far better form and have kept a clean sheet in four of their last six league games, while the Rossoblu have been particularly disappointing on offense.
