Will Munich take out their Champions League frustration on the Wolves?

While FC Bayern Munich bowed out of the Champions League semifinals on Wednesday night and now has to keep the excitement high for the upcoming cup final against VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg remains neck-and-neck in the relegation battle. Although the Wolves have gone three games unbeaten (one win, two draws), they remain six points adrift of safety. Realistically, the only goal left is the relegation playoff spot. However, if Wolfsburg fails to pick up a point against Bayern, it would drastically worsen the starting position for the upcoming relegation thriller at St. Pauli.

The Wolves’ disastrous home record is their biggest liability. The Green-Whites have earned just ten out of a possible 48 points at their home ground, the Volkswagen Arena. That’s seven points fewer than any other Bundesliga team. Even Heidenheim and St. Pauli have managed at least 17 home points. If the Munich side now takes the field with a lot of fire in their bellies following their Champions League exit, it could even turn into a debacle. We see a lot of value in the Wolfsburg vs. Bayern match in the prediction that the German record champions, who have already scored a historic 116 goals, will score at least three away goals.

While some rotation among the visitors is certainly possible, the Reds recently needed only brief bursts of pressure in their matches against Mainz (4-3) and Heidenheim (3-3) to find the back of the net multiple times. Consequently, a direct bet on a Munich away win is just as plausible as a neutral wager that this matchup will be as high-scoring as most league games involving Kompany’s team.

Wolfsburg vs. Bayern AI Prediction

The supercomputer AI also expects Munich to take home the three points in Lower Saxony. This implies a probability of 57.1 percent. In its calculations, however, the AI puts the record champions’ chance of victory at 62.2 percent.

Wolfsburg – Stats & Current Form

With 26 points from 32 league games, VfL Wolfsburg is having its worst Bundesliga season ever, but still hopes to remain among the elite of German soccer next season. After the Wolves remained unbeaten for three consecutive matches under interim coach Dieter Hecking (one win, two draws), they are no longer in a direct relegation spot for the first time since Matchday 23.

Admittedly, the six-point gap to safety is likely insurmountable. At the very least, however, the Green-Whites could hold on to the relegation playoff spot and force an unwanted playoff, in which the Wolves have, as is well known, managed to stay in the league four times before. To do so, however, it would help if Wolfsburg’s bet on earning a point against Bayern in their match against the record champions pays off, in order to have the best possible starting position for the away game at FC St. Pauli on Matchday 34.

Wolfsburg won only two of their 16 Bundesliga home games

However, two aspects are particularly problematic. For one thing, the Lower Saxony side is alarmingly weak at home, having earned just ten points from 16 Bundesliga home games in the 2025/26 season, which puts them firmly at the bottom of the home table. And secondly, the defense is a complete mess. Only bottom-placed Heidenheim (69) has conceded more goals than their 67.

Given that their biggest bogey team is now coming to the Volkswagen Arena—a team they’ve managed to beat just four times in 64 competitive matches (eight draws, 52 losses)—it’s correspondingly difficult to find reasons to be optimistic for VfL in this home game.

Bayern – Stats & Current Form

Under Vincent Kompany, FC Bayern Munich is undergoing a steady maturation process, one that is inevitably not entirely without setbacks. The disappointment was all the greater that, following the spectacular 4-5 loss to Paris Saint-Germain—when the Reds fought back after trailing 2-5 at one point—it wasn’t enough this week. The 1-1 draw against the defending champions sealed their exit from the Champions League semifinals.

Of course, the season isn’t over yet for the champions, who have already been crowned for weeks. After all, the FCB has reached the DFB Cup final for the first time in six years and is eager to win it in two weeks against VfB Stuttgart. And that’s exactly why they need to keep the momentum going. Under Vincent Kompany, the record champions bring the necessary seriousness and mentality, so we can certainly expect a Munich side with fire in their bellies at the Volkswagen Arena.

Will Wolfsburg feel the full force of Bayern?

The numbers all point to the team from the Isar, who haven’t lost to the Wolves in 24 competitive matches (21 wins, three draws) and are also unbeaten in 25 consecutive Bundesliga away games across seasons (19 wins, six draws).

The offensive firepower the Munich side has displayed recently—even while resting numerous key players—is nothing short of galactic. Their 116 goals are already a historic record in the Bundesliga and have been surpassed only twice in Europe’s top five leagues this millennium—in 2014/15 (118) and 2011/12 (121), both by Real Madrid, though they had 38 league games to achieve that. Accordingly, the odds for Wolfsburg vs. Bayern are in favor of the FCB putting on another goal-scoring spectacle.

Wolfsburg – Bayern Head-to-Head Record

Head to Head: 4 – 8 – 52

64 competitive matches have been played between the two teams so far, and with 52 wins, FC Bayern Munich holds a clear lead in the head-to-head record. Of all the teams against which the record champions have played at least ten matches in the Bundesliga, FCB has achieved a higher points average against the Wolves (2.54) than against any other opponent. Across all competitions, the Reds have been unbeaten in 24 matches against Wolfsburg (21 wins, three draws).

Wolfsburg – Bayern Tip

In particular, the Wolves’ poor record against Munich and the Lower Saxony side’s dismal performance in front of their home crowd point to an away win for the Reds in the Wolfsburg vs. Bayern match, especially since the Reds rarely drop points on the road. The men from the Isar have now gone 25 Bundesliga away games across two seasons without a loss (19 wins, six draws). There will certainly be no gifts for Wolfsburg, who are currently in acute danger of relegation, even though under Dieter Hecking they have managed to start at least a small mini-streak of three consecutive league games without a loss (one win, two draws).

Nevertheless, the last few weeks in particular—after the championship was already in the bag—showed that even a brief spell of pressure was sometimes enough for the Munich side to score multiple goals in quick succession. The 116 Bundesliga goals from the first 32 matchdays are already historic, and we expect at least three more to be added at the Volkswagen Arena. Our recommendation is for over 2.5 goals by the visitors, for which Betano is offering odds of 2.10 on the Wolfsburg vs. Bayern match, and we’re betting four out of ten units on this.
