Will Zverev get his revenge for Munich?

The fact that Alexander Zverev remains title-less in the 2026 season despite a strong record of 24 wins from 31 singles matches played also has to do with Flavio Cobolli. After all, it has been two and a half weeks since the German, as the top seed and defending champion at the BMW Open in Munich, went down 0-2 to the Italian in his own “backyard.”

Although the man from Tuscany lost the subsequent final to Ben Shelton, he showed that he can keep up with the world’s best on clay. This makes it all the more intriguing to ask whether there is value in betting on another victory for the world No. 13, Alexander Zverev, against Flavio Cobolli.

It is clear that the young Italian, who has made a huge leap this year and is no longer a classic underdog, has already shown in Munich that he can punish a passive Sascha. However, it should be noted that the Madrid clay court is the fastest on the ATP Tour due to its altitude (approx. 650 meters). This makes the Hamburg native’s serve even more effective, which is why we ultimately consider a win bet on Flavio Cobolli too risky. However, since we wouldn’t categorically rule it out and believe he is capable of winning at least one set, we are placing a +1.5-set handicap on the 23-year-old.

Alexander Zverev has a particularly good track record on the red clay of Madrid. At “La Caja Mágica,” he has already celebrated the overall title twice, in 2018 and 2021, and now stands at 28 wins out of 34 singles matches played—an outstanding win rate of 82.4 percent, which he doesn’t achieve at any other Masters tournament. Sascha hasn’t really shone yet this year, though. Most recently, he secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Jakub Mensik in a long, three-set thriller spanning 32 games.

Alexander Zverev – Flavio Cobolli Head-to-Head Record

Head to Head: 1:2

The two players have faced each other three times so far, and despite Alexander Zverev’s aforementioned 0-2 loss in the semifinals of the BMW Open in Munich on April 18, 2026, the German still leads Flavio Cobolli 2-1. The other two matches took place in the third round of the 2025 French Open and in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Terra Wortmann Open in Halle. In both cases, Sascha defeated the Italian without dropping a set.

Alexander Zverev – Flavio Cobolli Prediction

In our opinion, the betting odds from the top bookmakers for Alexander Zverev vs. Flavio Cobolli are leaning far too heavily in favor of the German. Not only did Sascha just lose to his Italian challenger 0-2 (3-6, 3-6) in the semifinals in front of a home crowd in Munich, but the rising star from Tuscany has just knocked an absolute top star, Daniil Medvedev, out of the competition, winning the point against the Russian’s second serve in 57 percent of all cases. We therefore really can’t find much value in the favorite bet.

A significantly better value is offered by the approach of applying a positive handicap of +1.5 sets to the Italian in our Alexander Zverev vs. Flavio Cobolli prediction. This covers every possible outcome except a straight 2-0 victory for the German, which is certainly a possibility given their most recent head-to-head and Sascha’s less-than-smooth performance so far in the tournament. Bet-at-home is offering odds of 1.75 for this bet, which we’re backing with four out of ten units.
