A tough opener for last year’s champion?

The 2026 BMW Open kicks off! Last year’s champion is Alex Zverev, and the Hamburg native generally feels very at home on the Isar: The Hanseatic player has already won the tournament in the Bavarian capital three times!

His three victories in the Bavarian capital, along with those of former German pro Philipp Kohlschreiber, set the record at the BMW Open.

Currently, the Hamburg native is in top form once again. He kicked off the clay-court season last week by reaching the semifinals in Monte Carlo. In the semifinals on the Mediterranean, however, he was once again defeated by Jannik Sinner.

Now, however, Zverev’s chances of winning the tournament look very good. Neither the South Tyrolean nor Carlos Alcaraz will be competing in Munich, meaning the top two players in the world rankings will be absent from the BMW Open.

His opening match against the Serbian Kecmanovic will nevertheless be a tough challenge. Although the Belgrade native recently lost in the first round in Monte Carlo to Britain’s Cameron Norrie, it was a very close match decided by a lost tiebreak in the third set.

The fact that he’ll win at least one set is nothing new for him: In his last nine losses, the world No. 58 has always managed to win at least one set.

Against this backdrop, betting on the match between Alexander Zverev and Miomir Kecmanovic to go to more than two sets is recommended. Since we still view the German as the favorite, we believe the odds on a 2-1 victory for the Hamburg native could be equally worthwhile.

Alexander Zverev – Miomir Kecmanovic Head-to-Head Record

Alexander Zverev and Miomir Kecmanovic have already faced each other once this year. The match took place in Acapulco at the end of February, and the Hamburg native lost in three sets. Due to that defeat, the head-to-head record for this matchup is even, with two wins and two losses each.

For the upcoming rematch between Alexander Zverev and Miomir Kecmanovic, however, the odds now clearly favor the German.

Alexander Zverev – Miomir Kecmanovic Prediction

Zverev is the No. 1 seed at the tournament in Munich. He also triumphed on the Isar last year, and with another tournament win, he would become the sole record holder with four titles.

We also view Zverev’s form as solid, and looking at this year’s field—following several withdrawals, such as that of Taylor Fritz (2024 finalist)—no other player of his caliber is in sight. Regardless, the Hamburg native faces a tough opening match against Kecmanovic.

The Serb defeated Zverev in their last meeting about six weeks ago in Acapulco and feels just as comfortable on clay as an all-around player. This is evident from the fact that he has already won a tournament on this surface on the ATP Tour (Kitzbühel 2020).

Furthermore, in nine of his eleven losses in 2026, he always won at least one set, and Kecmanovic has now won at least one set in 17 consecutive matches! His recent victory over Zverev has also shown once again that the German struggles against him.

The head-to-head record is even after four matches, and he failed to win a single set in only one of those encounters. Against this backdrop, the betting odds for the upcoming match between Alexander Zverev and Miomir Kecmanovic look promising for another match going to more than two sets!
