Will Struffi advance to the next round?
Both pros are currently in shaky form. The 20-year-old from Madrid was recently knocked out in the first round of the tournament in Beijing, and since a victory in mid-August of this year at the Cincinnati Masters, Landaluce has lost five of his six matches.
However, things aren’t looking much better for the Warstein native. Although Struff managed to get past the first round at the recent tournament in the Chinese capital, his run came to an end in the very next match. We therefore expect a closely contested match and are predicting that the clash between Martin Landaluce and Jan-Lennard Struff will go to more than two sets.
Martin Landaluce – Jan-Lennard Struff Head-to-Head Record
The two pros have faced each other once so far. Their first match took place in Mallorca this past June, and the German secured a 2-1 victory. The match was particularly close, especially in the decisive third set.
Struff ultimately prevailed with great difficulty, winning 7–5. For the next matchup between Martin Landaluce and Jan-Lennard Struff, the odds are once again very evenly split.
Martin Landaluce – Jan-Lennard Struff Prediction
A close match is on the horizon in the first round in Shanghai between the German and the Spaniard. Both players are currently struggling with consistency. It already seems clear that whoever triumphs in this match is unlikely to go far in this star-studded Masters tournament.
Furthermore, the young Spaniard is competing in the tournament in China for the first time. In his previous six Masters appearances this year, with the exception of the tournament in Cincinnati—where he lost in the third round—he has consistently been eliminated in the first round or even in qualifying.
Struff, at least, has more experience, and this also applies to the tournament in Shanghai, where he has competed three times and has only been sent home in the first round once. In light of this, we consider him a slight favorite, especially since he has been slightly more consistent in recent weeks compared to his opponent.
This is evident from the fact that in his last three tournament appearances—in Beijing, Cincinnati, and at the US Open—he has at least always made it past the first round. Nevertheless, we expect a close match.
For this reason, in the match between Martin Landaluce and Jan-Lennard Struff, we’re selecting the betting odds for the match to go to more than two sets. This is a pattern that was already evident in their only previous meeting this June on grass in Mallorca—and, as described, it ended in victory for the player from Warstein.
