Will the Rouge-et-Bleu book their place in the knockout stages?
Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid were actually considered the big favorites in Group B of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. However, after two of three matchdays, Botafogo surprisingly leads the table and is on course for the knockout stages. The Brazilians only need a draw against the Rojiblancos to win the group, while the Rouge-et-Bleu would also be pretty much certain of a place in the round of 16 if the Champions League winners beat Seattle Sounders.
It is not entirely unlikely that Botafogo, PSG, and Atlético Madrid will all finish Group B with six points. This would probably not be a problem for the Rouge-et-Bleu, as they have a goal difference of 4-1 from their two direct encounters, which only one of the other two teams can surpass. However, the basic prerequisite remains that the French win against Seattle Sounders. After all, the Americans also want to bow out with their heads held high.
Although Seattle has scored a goal in each of its two group games so far, it has also conceded five goals. So if Paris Saint-Germain’s enthusiasm for the game breaks out once again, the franchise from the American Western Conference may have to brace itself for the worst. It is quite possible that the Rouge-et-Bleu will shoot the Sounders out of the stadium.
Seattle Sounders – Statistics & current form
As winners of the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League, Seattle Sounders FC not only qualified for the 2022 Club World Cup, but will now also be able to compete in the 2025 edition of the competition. However, the club, also known as “Rave Green,” not only lost 1-0 to Al Ahly three years ago, failing to advance past the first round, but now also faces early elimination from the expanded Club World Cup after two losses in two group matches.
It would take a highly adventurous combination of results, with Seattle Sounders beating PSG by as big a margin as possible, while Botafogo would have to beat Atletico Madrid in the parallel game, for them to still qualify for the knockout stages. This is certainly not realistic, especially since Betano is offering odds of 24.00 for a simple Sounders victory. Even Betano’s risk-free $20 free bet would probably be too good to waste on such a reckless bet.
Seattle Sounders have been extremely vulnerable defensively lately
Things have been anything but smooth sailing in the MLS for the Washington franchise, which began play in the 2009 season and now has its third home game at Lumen Field after two defeats against Botafogo (1-2) and Atletico Madrid (1-3). In the last two league games before the Club World Cup, they suffered two defeats against Minnesota (2-3) and Vancouver (0-3), conceding three goals in each game.
Overall, the Sounders have now lost four competitive games in a row, conceding eleven goals. The conditions for holding off one of the most powerful attacks in the world could hardly be worse. For coach Brian Schmetzer’s team, the only thing that matters now is to avoid being completely crushed. A dignified exit with a point is virtually impossible, especially since the Rouge-et-Bleu are suddenly back in the thick of things after their defeat against Botafogo.
Predicted line-up for Seattle Sounders:
Frei – Baker-Whiting, Bell, Ragen, Kossa-Rienzi – Vargas, Roldán – Rothrock, Rusnák, De la Vega – Musovski
PSG – Statistics & current form
Paris Saint-Germain has actually achieved the feat of not only winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history in the historic 2024/25 season under Luis Enrique, but also winning the treble.
At first, it looked as if the players from the Seine would march through the restructured tournament in the United States of America. They got off to a flying start with a resounding 4-0 victory over Atlético Madrid – a team that is known for its defensive prowess. But Botafogo showed in the second group game what really works against the Parisians’ explosive offense. The Brazilians handed PSG their first defeat after six consecutive wins and even kept a clean sheet.
Is PSG really unbeatable?
So instead of qualifying for the knockout stages early and being able to field their second string against Seattle, the Rouge-et-Bleu now need a win and cannot rely on Botafogo beating Atlético Madrid. If the Rojiblancos win, a draw would not be enough for Paris Saint-Germain. However, there are no major doubts about an away win. For Seattle Sounders vs. PSG, odds of just 1.16 are being offered for a win for PSG, which we found in the handy ODDSET app.
No wonder, because even against the defensively very well organized Brazilians, the Rouge-et-Bleu had 16 shots on goal and 75 percent possession. There weren’t any clear-cut chances, but against such a defensively vulnerable American side, it should be easier for the newly crowned Champions League winners, who will also be looking to underline their big ambitions in the Club World Cup.
Predicted PSG line-up:
Donnarumma – Mendes, Pacho, Marquinhos, Hakimi – Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves – Kvaratskhelia, Dembélé, Doué
Seattle Sounders – PSG Head-to-head record
There has never been an intercontinental competitive match between these two teams before. Consequently, there is no head-to-head data available that could influence our prediction for Seattle Sounders vs. PSG in one way or another.
Seattle Sounders – PSG Tip
The betting odds from German-licensed bookmakers are clearly and unambiguously in favor of the Rouge-et-Bleu in the match between Seattle Sounders and PSG. Although they stumbled against Botafogo in their last game, they undoubtedly have enough offensive firepower to knock the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League champions out of the stadium. So far, the Sounders have also lost all three of their previous competitive matches in club world championships. In their last four competitive matches across all competitions, the Americans have conceded eleven goals.
It therefore seems very likely that Seattle Sounders will face PSG and suffer an unchallenged and probably heavy defeat, which leaves only the question of where the best value can be found. The most interesting bet seems to be that Désiré Doué will also get on the scoresheet for the first time in the Club World Cup.
The Bet-at-home app offers odds of 1.90 for a goal from the 20-year-old match winner from the recent Champions League final, which we are backing with four out of ten units.
