Will Florence remain winless?

After their blockbuster match against Napoli, the Nerazzurri are back in league action on Wednesday. In the middle of a busy week in Italy’s top flight, Inter Milan face La Viola at home. Unsurprisingly, Inter Milan are clear favorites in the Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina betting odds.

While Inter slipped up against Napoli, Fiorentina’s negative run continued seamlessly against Bologna. After eight matchdays, Stefano Pioli’s team is still winless in Serie A. And in all likelihood, this will not change after the ninth matchday. In any case, in our Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina prediction, we do not expect the visitors to secure their first win of the season in a difficult away game at San Siro.

On the contrary, if La Viola continue to perform as poorly in Milan as they have in recent weeks, a debacle against the strongest offensive team in Serie A cannot be ruled out. However, as the Nerazzurri are also looking shaky at the back this season, we expect a high-scoring evening between Inter Milan and Fiorentina.

Inter Milan – Fiorentina Head-to-head record

This traditional Italian rivalry has been played out 177 times to date. Inter Milan leads the overall record with 76 wins, while Fiorentina has won 46 games. There have been 55 draws. At home in San Siro, the head-to-head record is even clearer for the Nerazzurri.

Of the 88 home games played so far, Inter have won 52 against Florence (52-20-16), including both league games in the last two seasons. If Cristian Chivu’s team wins its third consecutive Serie A home game against La Viola, the bookies are not offering high odds for the expected favorite to win in this Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina matchup.

Inter Milan – Fiorentina Tip

Both Milan clubs and Serie A leaders slipped up on the last matchday. Champions Napoli seized the opportunity and secured their place at the top of Italy’s top flight. In order not to lose further ground on the new leaders, the Nerazzurri will be looking to avoid another slip-up in their upcoming home game against Florence.

Last season, the Scudetto went to Napoli. As a result, the Nerazzurri parted ways with coach Simone Inzaghi by mutual agreement, and Romanian and former Inter player Cristian Chivu took over. After initial difficulties and defeats against Udinese and Napoli, the club seemed to be on the right track in the Italian fashion capital.

However, after four consecutive league wins, they suffered a heavy defeat in the top-of-the-table clash against Napoli on the last matchday. Once again, the defensive problems of the runners-up under Chivu were decisive. Inter have already paid the price several times this season for the Romanian coach’s much more offensive approach compared to his predecessor Inzaghi.

Eleven goals conceded after eight matchdays is rather unusual for a top Italian team and is only surpassed by Udinese among the teams in the upper half of the table.

Inter Milan’s upcoming opponent, on the other hand, has not gotten off to a good start this season. The Conference League participant from Tuscany is still waiting for its first league win of the season. After another draw against Bologna, the tifosi are rightly wondering what is going on with last season’s sixth-placed team.

At first glance, there are few reasons for the misery. The personnel changes in the summer were rather moderate, and all departures were replaced with high-quality players. Even an excessively long injury list cannot explain Pioli’s team’s fall to third from bottom in the table. At most, it could be attributed to a difficult start to the Serie A season. However, AC Florence is undoubtedly much better than its current position in the table suggests.

It is unlikely to be any easier to score points in the away game at San Siro. La Viola did a lot of things right against Bologna last matchday and even had a significantly better xG value in that game. However, Florence was initially mercilessly counterattacked, so that in the end, it was only enough for a draw. Nevertheless, the strong comeback after falling behind 0-2 should give the team a boost ahead of the difficult game at San Siro.

And even if we don’t believe they will get anything out of the game, we think it’s not unlikely that the visitors will be able to cause the Nerazzurri’s shaky defense at least some trouble with one, maybe even two goals. After all, the team from Tuscany has shown a certain upswing in recent weeks, at least offensively. And as we all know, wounded boxers are the most dangerous.
