No rout for the underdog?
The season is also entering the home stretch in Spain’s top flight, and We has a tip and odds for the upcoming match between Getafe and Barcelona! The visitors have only one goal left this season: winning the Spanish championship.
Barca has already been eliminated from all other competitions, but defending the title is virtually a foregone conclusion for the Catalans, given their comfortable nine-point lead over their closest pursuer, Real Madrid, with seven rounds remaining. The hosts, however, still have sporting goals of their own: sitting sixth in the table, they have their sights set on securing a spot in European competition for next season.
In this match, they are now banking on home-field advantage against FCB. This advantage was not particularly pronounced for much of the season, but “Geta” has recently reignited it. Looking back at the past four home games, the hosts have recorded half of their six home wins this season.
Although the opposition was clearly weaker compared to the upcoming challenge against the league leaders, the successes have nonetheless boosted the confidence of the players from the Madrid suburbs. Against this backdrop, we believe the match between Getafe and Barcelona is ripe for a prediction of both teams scoring.
Furthermore, we do not expect the hosts to suffer a heavy defeat, which is why the odds on Coach José Bordalás’s team not losing by a margin of two or more goals could also be worthwhile. This prediction is supported by Getafe’s strong home defense, which has conceded the second-fewest goals on home turf this season—tied with their upcoming opponent—across the entire league!
Moreover, following their last match against Celta Vigo last Wednesday, the visitors are fielding a weakened squad due to Yamine Lamal’s injury. With 27 goal contributions, the Spaniard is the second-highest scorer this season behind Kylian Mbappé, which is why his absence particularly weakens Barca.
Additionally, in our view, the odds for a goal by Martin Satriano for the home side are attractive in the match between Getafe and Barcelona. The striker is increasingly filling the void left by Borja Mayoral Moya’s season-long absence particularly well. He has scored all four of his goals this season in the last nine league games!
Getafe – Barcelona Head-to-Head Record
From a statistical perspective, Getafe will be approaching this match with some concern. The “Azulones” have been waiting for a win against Barca for ten matches. Instead, since their last victory in October 2020, they have suffered six defeats and drawn four times.
For the upcoming match between Getafe and Barcelona, the odds clearly favor the visitors.
Getafe – Barcelona Prediction
Getafe finished only 13th last season, but things are clearly going better in the current La Liga campaign. Currently, the two-time Copa del Rey winners sit in sixth place and thus have a chance to qualify for international competitions next season.
The players from the Estadio Coliseum have earned their more successful season primarily through a strong defense. Only two teams in the league have conceded fewer goals than “Geta.”
Now, however, FCB—the clearest offensive powerhouse in Spain’s top flight—is coming to town. Against this backdrop, the betting odds for both teams to score in the match between Getafe and Barcelona look promising.
Another factor pointing to at least one goal from the underdog is that the hosts’ offense has recently improved in home games, while the visitors’ defense is quite vulnerable on the road. Coach Hansi Flick’s squad has conceded 21 of their 30 goals this season while playing away!
As a result, FCB has managed a clean sheet in only one of their last five away league matches. Furthermore, Getafe will have Mauro Arambarri—the team’s top scorer this season (6 goals)—back in action after serving a suspension, while Barca must reshuffle their defense due to João Cancelo’s injury sustained in the last league match.
