Is Inter Milan still unstoppable?

A must-win game for the Italian league leader against the third-to-last team in Serie A. Needless to say, bookmakers expect the league leaders to pick up another three points in my Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina prediction. High odds for a home win are therefore not to be expected.

While the Italian champions have gotten off to a dazzling start to this Serie A season, their opponents—just like last season—have had a disastrous start to the Italian top flight. In any case, I don’t see many signs that this slump will come to an end in this difficult away match at San Siro in my Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina prediction, where I expect another decisive home win for the Nerazzurri.

Inter Milan – Fiorentina Head-to-Head Record

The two teams have faced each other a total of 179 times so far. Inter Milan leads the overall record with 77 wins. Fiorentina has come out on top 46 times, with 56 draws. The reigning Italian champions’ home record against this opponent is even more dominant. Of the 89 home games played so far, Cristian Chivu’s team has won 53 and lost only 16.

The last three home games against La Viola were also one-sided affairs. The Nerazzurri won all of them with a combined score of 9-1. As expected, the betting odds for Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina this coming Sunday once again show the home team as the clear favorite.

Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina Prediction

Despite a strong start to the season domestically, defensive play has been a weak point for the Italian league leaders in recent weeks. However, since Inter’s offense has consistently delivered, these issues haven’t been particularly significant—at least domestically—so far. The league leaders’ only loss of points came in a 2–2 draw at Roma. And even in their other league matches, Inter Milan’s games have been quite eventful in recent weeks, such as the 5–3 win against Udinese or the 3–1 victory in Bologna.

Against Donetsk, Cristian Chivu’s team did manage its second shutout victory of the season. Nevertheless, I don’t expect the Romanian Inter coach to have already successfully resolved all of his team’s defensive issues. And yes, I also believe that AC Florence—which got off to a weak start—is capable of scoring at San Siro.

Because if any part of the visitors’ team has been even somewhat convincing so far, it’s been their own offense, which has scored at least once in each of their last six competitive matches. However, a possible goal of their own wouldn’t change my Inter Milan vs. Fiorentina prediction of a clear home win by much. That’s because, against the league’s strongest offense led by Lautaro Martinez, I also expect AC Florence—which has conceded 17 goals, the most of any team in Serie A—to let in a few goals.

The team is currently in a relegation spot, but given the potential of their roster, I don’t expect Fiorentina to be relegated to Serie B at the end of this season. Still, they’re unlikely to pick up any more points until after their tough away match in Milan.
