Will Valencia still qualify for Europe?

On the final matchday of La Liga, Valencia hosts the Spanish champions from Barcelona. The hosts are currently in ninth place with 46 points, but their European hopes are not yet completely dashed. Ahead of them are UECL finalist Vallecano with 47 points and Getafe with 48. So there is still a slim chance.

FC Barcelona, on the other hand, sits atop the table with 94 points and, in the best-case scenario, can finish the season 14 points ahead of Real Madrid—eight points will be the minimum. In their last away game, they suffered a 0-1 defeat against Alavés, which at least gives the home side some hope.

On the road, the Catalans haven’t always been sharp from the start: In their last nine away games, Barca failed to score in the first half six times. In our Valencia vs. Barcelona prediction, we’re therefore once again betting that the visitors won’t score before halftime.

Valencia is currently in solid form. Los Che have lost only one of their last six league games, securing three wins in the process. At home, the Bats are also doing well—in their last 13 league matches, they’ve suffered just three defeats, including losses to Atleti and Real Madrid. The remaining ten matches are evenly split between five wins and five draws.

However, the recent head-to-head record is more than unpleasant for the Valencians. They have lost the last three competitive matches by a combined score of 1-18, but we don’t expect that many goals this time. In the last three home league games in Valencia against Barca, there have never been more than three goals, with a total of just six.

FC Barcelona is currently in fantastic form and has lost only one of its last 13 league games—the first after clinching the title. The remaining twelve matches were all won. The Catalans can no longer reach the 100-point mark, but with six goals, they can still hit the 100-goal mark.

The player we believe could score a consolation goal in his final match for Barcelona is Robert Lewandowski. The 37-year-old has scored 119 goals and provided 24 assists in 191 matches for the Blaugrana. In the last four league matches against Valencia, he has scored at least once in every game, netting a total of eight goals.

Valencia – Barcelona Head-to-Head Record

Valencia and Barcelona have faced each other in 197 competitive matches so far. Barcelona has won 98 of those matches, while Valencia has 49 wins. Another 50 matches ended in a draw. The Catalans’ advantage is particularly evident in the goal difference: Barcelona has scored 387 goals, while Valencia has scored 273.

Valencia – Barcelona Prediction

According to the bookmakers’ Valencia vs. Barcelona betting odds, FC Barcelona is the favorite going into this match, even though it’s the last game of the season.

The Catalans have lost only one of their last 13 league games and won the remaining twelve. Their record against Valencia is also strong—Barca has remained unbeaten in the last eleven league games, racking up nine wins.

Valencia, on the other hand, can’t quite keep up with that form, but has still lost only one of its last six league games. Generally speaking, the Bats are prolific in front of their home crowd, but have failed to score against any of the current top-four teams—losing 0-2 three times (against both Madrid clubs and Villarreal).
