Will the Elftal bounce back from their loss to Algeria?

The big day is almost here, and anticipation is growing by the day. The 23rd FIFA World Cup invites the qualified nations to the host countries of Canada, Mexico, and the USA. In their final warm-up match ahead of the major event, the Netherlands and Uzbekistan face off, and a bet on the Elftal is rewarded by German-licensed bookmakers with top odds of 1.32.

The Blue-Whites are making their first appearance in a World Cup finals and are one of the tournament’s underdogs. Just qualifying was a major success for the team from Central Asia. For the White Wolves, the goal will certainly be to secure a spot in the Round of 16 by finishing third.

Head coach Fabio Cannavaro’s squad consists largely of unknown players, most of whom are familiar only to true experts. Exceptions here might include captain Shomudorov (Basaksehir) and center back Khusanov (Manchester City). In last weekend’s friendly against co-host Canada, they suffered a 0-2 defeat.

The Dutch, on the other hand, are at least among the extended circle of favorites for the title. There are certainly some gifted players in the Oranje’s ranks, but how far will coach Ronald Koeman’s team really go in the tournament? They hadn’t lost a game since October before suffering a 0-1 defeat against Algeria last Wednesday. Nevertheless, we believe the Elftal is capable of at least winning the group, even though they face tough competition from Japan in Group F.

Netherlands – Uzbekistan Head-to-Head Record

So far, the two nations have avoided each other, so we can’t draw on past results. This makes us all the more excited for their first matchup and whether the Dutch will indeed achieve the success everyone expects.

Netherlands – Uzbekistan Prediction

In World Cup 2026 Qualifying Group G, the Dutch faced Poland, Finland, Malta, and Lithuania. As expected, the Eastern Europeans proved to be the toughest rivals, but failed to close the gap on the Oranje in their head-to-head match in Warsaw on the penultimate matchday. Thus, the Oranje secured the group title with six wins and two draws, finishing three points ahead of the Poles. The 2010 World Cup runners-up showcased their attacking prowess throughout the group stage, finding the back of the net 27 times—by far the best tally in the group. Memphis Depay was the top scorer of the entire qualifying round with eight goals, trailing only Erling Haaland. The team conceded just four goals—another very strong performance.

Uzbekistan has reached the World Cup finals for the very first time this year. This alone is already a major success for head coach Fabio Cannavaro’s squad. The road was long and arduous. In their group, the White Wolves finished behind Iran but ahead of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. They celebrated six wins and three draws in their ten qualifying matches. Their only loss came in a 2-3 defeat in Qatar. A goal difference of 14-7 doesn’t indicate much firepower on offense. But their defensive unit is solid, and they’ll present their opponents with some tricky challenges to overcome.

Of course, the Dutch go into this match as favorites, even though their last friendly went south. The Elftal lost 0-1 to Algeria last Wednesday on a late goal. Despite an xG of 2.19, they failed to find the back of the net. But the White Wolves also revealed some weaknesses in their loss in Canada.

Accordingly, we expect at least a few goals from the Dutch. Therefore, in the Netherlands vs. Uzbekistan match, at odds of 1.74, we’re betting on the combination of a Netherlands win and over 2.5 goals.
