Will the German national team impress against the Ivorians as well?

After a 7-1 rout of Curaçao in their opener, the German national team is determined to build on that success in their second match. Ahead of the Germany vs. Ivory Coast match, however, betting on coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team carries far more risk than it did on the first matchday of Group E. The Ivorians also kicked off with a win against Ecuador, showcasing strengths on the field that must be taken into account when making the Germany vs. Ivory Coast prediction. According to an AI analysis—which will be explained in more detail in one of the following paragraphs—the 2014 World Cup champions remain the clear favorites nonetheless!

Germany vs. Ivory Coast AI Prediction

The AI has calculated a 56.0% probability of a German victory. This would suggest fair odds of approximately 1.79. However, since the average odds for Germany vs. Ivory Coast—specifically for a German win—are below 1.60, the AI advises against betting on the favorite to win. Instead, the AI forecast identifies value in the match between Germany and Ivory Coast, suggesting that the Ivorians have at least a 44.0% chance of earning a point—a scenario that, given xG values of 1.84 to 1.09, falls well within the realm of possibility.

Germany – Statistics & Current Form

The DFB team’s opening match could hardly have been more convincing: With a 7–1 victory over Curaçao, the four-time champions got off to a brilliant start in the tournament and immediately underscored why the team is among the extended circle of favorites for the 2026 World Cup. The offense played with enthusiasm, efficiency, and versatility, while the defense appeared stable overall despite conceding a goal.

The team’s current form is also particularly noteworthy. Ten consecutive wins speak to a squad that has found its rhythm and is playing with great confidence. The team’s movements look well-rehearsed, roles are clearly defined, and the intensity remains high throughout the entire 90 minutes. Overall, the impression is that the atmosphere within the squad is very positive.

Defensive solidity and ball control as Germany’s keys to victory

However, since the Germans tend to be a bit pessimistic by nature, the warning about their next opponent is particularly stark. The Ivory Coast brings strengths to the table that the German team will first have to match. First and foremost, this refers to the threat of counterattacks, particularly from Leipzig star Yan Diomande. It’s quite possible that the lightning-fast winger will start on the left from the get-go to better exploit his speed advantage against Joshua Kimmich. Kimmich tends to play inversely with the ball, so there could be plenty of open space on his side after a turnover.

However, if Nagelsmann’s team manages to stay solid in the back line and maintain control with good counter-pressing and few simple mistakes, I, too, believe that, as reflected in the odds, the 2014 World Cup champions are the rightful favorites in the match between Germany and the Ivory Coast.

Nevertheless, I don’t see any value in betting on the 1.60 odds for a German victory, as I believe they’re far too low. Instead, the Double Chance X2 looks more profitable, offering odds of 2.45 at Betano, for example.

Ivory Coast – Statistics & Current Form

Ivory Coast made an immediate statement at this World Cup. Their 1-0 opening victory over Ecuador came late, but was by no means undeserved. Substitute Amad Diallo scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute, ending Ecuador’s impressive streak of 19 unbeaten games in the process.

Particularly noteworthy: The Ivorians weathered their opponent’s strongest phase in the first half, when Ecuador hit the woodwork several times, then stepped up their game significantly and earned the victory with a dominant second half. With three points already in the bag, the West Africans can now head into the highlight match against Germany with nothing to lose.

You have to watch out for the Ivory Coast

However, the “Elephants’” current form is no fluke. Even during World Cup qualifying, the team showed extreme stability and was among Africa’s strongest defensively. They kept a clean sheet throughout the entire qualifying campaign, laying the foundation for their World Cup berth.

The recent results under coach Emerse Faé leading up to the tournament also clearly indicate that the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations champions are a force to be reckoned with. Before the tournament, the Ivory Coast defeated notable opponents such as France, Scotland, and South Korea, and is traveling to North America with a great deal of confidence.

The combination of a strong defense—which will once again sit deep and defend with a compact formation on Saturday night—and a truly high-caliber offense makes the Ivorians a extremely dangerous opponent. However, I personally don’t think the match will be as low-scoring as the opener against Ecuador.

It’s more likely that a “Over Goals” prediction will come true in the second group stage match between Germany and Ivory Coast. I consider three goals in the match to be very likely. Bwin is offering odds of 1.61 on this.

Germany – Ivory Coast Head-to-Head Record

The teams’ only previous meeting took place in 2009 as part of a friendly match. The final score was 2–2. Germany’s World Cup record against African teams is also positive, with five wins, two draws, and one loss. The Ivorians can’t keep up with that, having recorded just one win in six matches against UEFA nations. One draw and four losses round out that record.

Germany vs. Ivory Coast Prediction

Despite facing a stronger opponent, Germany remains the favorite in my view. Their 7-1 opening victory against Curaçao and their streak of ten consecutive wins clearly speak in favor of Julian Nagelsmann’s team. However, I think the odds on a DFB victory are too low, as the Ivory Coast can be quite dangerous with their strong counterattacks and players like Yan Diomande. That’s why I’d rather look for alternatives instead of betting on a straight Germany win.

These alternatives primarily focus on over goals. My recommendation would therefore be to bet on both teams to score in the match between Germany and Ivory Coast. If you’re willing to take a bit of a risk, you might even consider the Double Chance X2—given the high odds. I also think Over 2.5 (1.61 @Bwin) is definitely worth a bet.
